Hi i'm originally from sunny retford, moved 20 mins up the road to gainsborough now but have a lot of family and friends in retford. Im sure i'll have passed you wandering along carolgate one day!!

Raggydoll, where's good to ride round you? My OH lives in Retford and cant find anywhere - we want to make sure it's somewhere good. He's a novice - can walk and trot okay (bit wobbly), has cantered twice. Only ridden 4 times though so doing well!

Hmm well the lack of decent places to ride around here is partly the reason i ended up jumping into ownership so fast. The places i have been to have either been seriously dodgy or seriously snobby and not interested in novices. I had lessons at Misterton - Grove House Stables, but im pretty sure they don't do hacking. I'll ask around and let you know if i hear about anywhere :)

My whole family live in Retford, I lived in Ollerton til I was 9 but still come to Retford alot as my sisters dad lives there and all my aunts and uncles. They spend most of the time in the Flying Scotsman on Hallcroft Road! If anyone goes in there you prob know my aunt as she worked there and also all my family spend 90% of their lives in there lol
most people seem to know my sisters dad though...not sure if that a good thing or a bad thing!!!

Ive seen a couple of horsey people in town in Retford, it always makes me excited. Me and OH are still thinking of finding somewhere to ride there (he rides too). Wouldnt it be weird if you knew him? :p

if you've seen people in town in horsey gear then that definitely isn't me :p I'm not the wandering around with hay in my hair covered in mud type person.... lol

Places to ride... hhmm - I learnt in Clowne but that was 24 years ago... other than always had own ponies or horses of my own.

The ones I know of are College Farm Equestrian Centre nr Markham Moor, Carlton Forest nr Worksop or wellow - don't know how good/bad any of them are or what they offer though

they dont give lessons anymore, it was just a livery yard last i heard, the owner was struggling with the rising insurance costs and wanted to compete with her horses and couldnt do both it used to be a good place 2 ride tho. :rolleyes:
