hi,

i have 3 horses that i would like to do some showing with for different reasons...
1. a 13.2 20 year old mare part welsh sec c but with no breeding papers. i would like to do in hand classes with her as she is too small fir me to ride. are there such thing as in hand vetern classes and would she be a ble to do county level with no breeding papers.

2. a 15.2 9 year old gelding hes a tb x cob and has really good conformation. he looks like a really nice hunter type and jumps really well ... what classes would he be suitable for, he won the in hand hunter class at our local show.
again has no breeding papers.

3. a 15 hh 3year old PRE or spanish bred gelding. with papers. i dont know if there would be anything suitable for this one.... can he do riding horse classes

what are the rules on a 'hunter type' horse? does it have to be part TB??

Horse 1: There are veteran inhand classes from local level to county level - most at county level class are run under the rules of the veteran horse society and are split into age groups.

Horse 2: Hunters don't have to have any papers or be any particular breed, it's a type rather than a breed. Hunters, small hunters (hunters 15.2hh and under) and riding horses could all be possible classes depending on his build. Unfortunately without seeing photos it's impossible to tell what levels you could do well at (though winning at local level is a really good start). At county level they don't do inhand classes for geldings over 4 years old, so you'd be looking at ridden classes at that level, and they must be well enough schooled for the judge to ride.

Horse 3: This is completely out of my area, but I have seen quite a few classes for pure spanish bred horses recently, are you a member of a society for the breed? They'll probably be happy to give you information on any shows in your area. Riding horses are again a type rather than a breed, and many spanish horses wouldn't fit the type. He would have to be plaited and trimmed for riding horse classes which might not suit you. Ridden horse classes are for all ridden horse classes, so look out for these, and you'll probably be eligable for generic "novice horse" classes as he'll only be 4 next year.
