 well just got back, rode Gem again today she's a chestnut mare, she is such a lazy lady, (don't shout at me .... quite a lot of kickin n tapping, honestly squeeze n nudge don't work) along with lots of telephone noises brrrrrr brrrrrr seems to work for her. Half way through the lesson , she perked up, we had a lovely active trot, cantered round the whole school without stopping (we tend to go back to a lazy trot when we see a corner) but we got through 4 corners before the batteries lost some life. We did a few trotting poles which she was great over. So yet again I came away feeling I'd achieved something by the end of the lesson when she started listening to me. Same as last week I was thinkin how much easier my lesson would have been on Tom, would have got a lot more done, could have concentrated on my position rather than gettin her movin (when the positon seems to get lost completely) he's a typical squeeze n go horse, once he's moving you can concentrate on yourself. Would have been nice on him also because we had the whole school today but although we'd have probably done so much more in a neat and tidy fashion and I'd have probably looked like a pretty good rider I wouldn't have come away with a sense of achievement like I did tonight, legs completely gone, walking like I was drunk but with a big smile and sense of achievement :D so to go on :p

Aww that is just so great for you to *walk* and I use that phrase loosely, lol, away feeling that you have achieved something. Ah to canter, that word lingers in my memory....perhaps one day.
My loan girlie sounds just like Gem - I am cream-crackered just from the leg aids!! But I much prefer the squeeze and they don't go types myself, couldn't handle a forward going horse just yet!!
Am really pleased for you!

You will canter again one day, just as soon as you are ready, and not before!

Really sounds like you had a perfect lesson and got so much accomplished. It's always a great day when you can canter around the entire ring without stopping, such great feeling. I've done that I think 3 times since I got back to riding. The poles are fun too, breaks up the lesson and makes you feel like you did a lot. If I'm not sore I feel like I didn't get a good enough workout so I'm smiling when my muscles ache:D.

Oh well done. They do make you work some of them, don't they. I used to ride a big chestnut scool horse called Chloe (RIP), and she was ultra lazy. Had a jumping lesson on her once and it nearly killed me. It was like trying to jump a sedated hippo! She was lovely though.

You know, if it wasn't for the chestnut part, I'd swear you were talking about my Gem! :D
Good news on your acheivment, it's always such a great feeling when you and your horse are on the same wavelength :)
