What do you think of my fillys conformation?
She is a 2yr old registered TB standing at approx 15.3hh. I would like to event her in the future. I had her mum who had similar conformation and had a cracking jump but I'm not brilliant at judging horses conformation.
I would like to show her in hand next year but am unsure of what classes to enter? Any ideas?
I would love to know your opinions on her conformation! I'm very open to critisism but bear in mind this horse is my baby so please don't totally crush her!! :D
Please excuse the freezemark area, she only had it done yesterday!

I'd think she'd make a nice large riding horse. Although theyre aren't that many of those classes around, how about sports horse classes, most county level shows have them. Or you could enter the hunter classes just for experience? By next year she may have matured a bit more too so may look more hunter like. Our small riding horse 2yo has won both as a riding horse and a hunter.

Well I'm no judge but I think she's really nicely put together, very pretty
Guess for showing, riding horse springs to mind ...

She's gorgeous ... Lovely rounded mare and not at all gangly looking for a 2yo!
The only thing that would possibly concern me for performance sports are her pasterns, which look like they might take a right beating from heavy, high, fast landings. However, that's more than likely to be the angle of the photo which is a little downward and also her body is a tiny bit twisted so it's not too easy to tell ... She's probably just about perfect in reality :)!

Her pasterns look perfect to me, especially for jumping, they need to have a nice slope to take the impact, but im not an expert on comformation or TBs.
She looks very mature for a 2 year old so i think would do well in hand. The only criticism i would have is that her head looks slightly too big, but then it may well be that the rest of her body will catch up as she fills out, or it could be the funny angle of the picture!
She has quite a slope on her croup down to the set on of her tail, but again it could just be a funny phase of growth, but she looks to me as though she has very nice, strong back legs and a nice big bum - perfect for jumping :D
I think she'll make you a lovely eventer in the future. But if you want a more detailed critique you'd have to put up photos from all angles, but she looks very nice to me.. But as i said, im no expert.

All in all she is a nice girl - not sure what everyone else thinks on this, but look at her chest, it seems to come down a little low it's almost as though her legs are set a little too far back on the shoulder, does that make any sense? to be honest it's probs just the way she is standing as the pic is on a slight angle and her front end has a bit of maturing left to do, but it's the only thing I can see that may look a little not quite right - other than that I think she'll be lovely!

Thanks everyone, keep the comments coming and I will put some more piccys up asap. Her head is um...well...yes a bit on the large side! lol. shes always had a bit of an ugly head even as a foal but she is growing into in slowly...thank god!!!
As for the legs..I have constant trouble with them (you may have seen some of my other posts) they seem to be made of china and she insists or hooning around like a lunatic and pulling, twisting and/or bruising something at least every other day. I hope it isnt a sign of things to come and hope that they will eventually get stronger and she'll grow out of the "gallop everywhere at top speed" phase!!
I'm off to photobucket to upload some more pics!:)

i agree that she looks well put together. my only criticism (which isn't really critical) is her back looks quite short but that not overly and it could lengthen etc. she looks slightly croup high (but only slightly) but again, that is probably age. can't wait to see more piccys, she looks lovely :)

Here we go...These are some that were taken the same day as the 1st one. I really have no idea why she is standing so strangely behind as she isnt really that crooked so ignore the hind tootsies. She was very splayed out in front as a foal and has straightened up slighty but as you can see the lower half of her fore legs are still a bit splayed, do you think they will straighten out more and if not are they likely to cause a problem? Her action is fairly straight in all paces.

She has a lovely straight front, really nice :)
She seems a bit cow hocked behind which although isn't great for showing, its not a bad thing at all for jumping as they tend to be more agile :)
As someone else said she is a little short in the back for a TB but it doesnt help that she has her back legs so far under her. Her front angulation (for me) is nice, her legs are nicely under her, but not TOO much as they did seem a little bit in the first picture you posted.
Her front end seems better than her backend overall, but it will all change as she matures.. But yes, thats not a typical TB head! :D lol But what a sweet, kind eye she has.
A lovely mare i think, she'll probably do whatever you want her to :)

Jessica23 - R.E the short back - I would like to breed from her in the (distant!!) future (Not to sell, just to keep foalie for myself) will the short back cause a problem with regards to her being able to carry a foal?
I always take the mickey out of her head, if I can find a picy of her as a yearling I will post it as she really was an ugly duckling then! But I love her regardless.
You'd never believe me if I said that Sadlers Wells is her great grand sire??:D

Oooh, i have no idea lol!! I just ride them, not breed! But hopefully someone who breeds would be able to tell you whether that would be a problem. I cant think it would though..
And i would believe that! :D Although she's not your typical racehorse TB, she will definately make a good sporthorse, whatever it is you want to do with her. As long as she has the willng temperment she will be a lovely little competition horse i think :)

Horses are supposed to have nice short coupled backs - it means they can carry a rider well and collect more easily. She looks a little like one of my TB's called Willow(she's on the for sale page of my website below so you can see her), she has a lovely short back and big butt - just what I want!! As for problems foaling, it shouldn't make any difference, the only thing we notice with Willow is instead of these long mares that can take the foal lenghth ways so they don't really look that heavily in foal, whereas Willow carries it sideways so she looks like she has swallowed a large balloon and can't go through narrow doorways!!!:D:p
She looks to be a nice little filly, she is only 2yrs so she will be butt high and rather gangly looking and they do eventually grow into thier heads and muscle up! You need to get some good pics of her standing properly to guage conformation well, but take her to some shows and see how she does. She'll look alot better late next year as they tend to put a bit of a spurt on in the spring.
Our mare has a rather plain face too but her body makes up for it and she throws some very nice sproglets too, we have retained her colt from last year as a stallion prospect. If you do decide to breed from your mare just watch as splay feet can be a congenital thing, she looks to be not that bad though, so beaware if she does throw splay feet on her first sprog, then keep her as a riding horse and not breeding.

Thank you blackhorses, that was really helpful. :)
Her dam doesn't have splay feet so I hope it's just her and won't be passed down but I only want one foal from her and I will be keeping it for myself anyway as hacking/riding horse for my later years!
Good to hear that her short back shouldn't be a problem and hopefully that big butt will prove to be a good engine for jumping and galloping.
As for showing next year, I'm only taking her for atmosphere experience and not expecting to win anything so as others mentioned above, riding horse classes should do nicely I hope.:)

Shes lovely! Very well developed for a 2yr old. I know what u mean about them looking funny tho! When our filly was born she had a tiny head, really big ears long legs an a short body. I was really woried that i had bred a ugly foal. She is now 9 months and is stunning. x
