We had one come into the yard where i use to be once to be broken in. He was a lovely big chap! Basically broke himself and was a pleasure to be around, he lived out during the summer but came back to us in December for a holiday and he lived out then quite happy. He had a huge high action, especially in trot. I believed he was sold a couple of years later as a driving horse

Gelderlanders are one of my favourite breeds but I am a driving loon. I have also owned an enormous one ending up over 18 hands. I found they can be spooky to start with but once in a routine settle and are very good all round horses, I haven't come across one with a bad temperament either. They can definitely live out as the climate in Holland isn't dissimilar to here. I think thay make good all round horses and are easy to train but bare in mind I usually train hackneys so anything is quiet in comparision. I wouldn't hesitate in having another. If you google Gelderlander you'll get loads of sites come up.

Hazel is part gelderlander and i wouldn't change her for the world!!!!

They are graded when young as to whether they are the driving sort or the riding sort and how flashy. I did work experience at Beckhouse carriages and they were training there team of four gelderlanders and they were very hot and green, but willing to work and had nice temperaments. Their broodmares were turned out all year.

They can be hot headed but ive never met a nasty one and they're clever and willing to please. One of the best horses around if you like the movement to ride. Thats what usually decides whether people like them or not. I hope you do.

i worked for a 4 in hand driver who had a team of them, kind as a horse could be but all had their quirks, 2 were spooky to ride 2 were quiet. 2 were **** when driven 2 were excellent leaders, all different ages, they tend to carry themselves quiet high and do have a high knee action. have a look at http://www.fenixcarriages.co.uk theres some pics of them there

i used to ride a gelderlander mare- she was a fantastic jumper.

has anyone seen the black gelderlander gelding in the front of the horse buyer/horse deals magazine? i think its in the netherlands or something and is £1900 including transport to UK and a 2yr warranty! i WANT it!
