Some of you may remember me posting in September about the problems I was having with my share horse. In summary, she was very green, stubborn and had learnt that if she reared/bucked then she would get turned out without doing any work. We could not even do a circuit of the school in walk keeping to the outside track and trotting was impossible. These problems were confined to the school and I felt safe when we were out hacking. I am a novice and was sure that I'd overhorsed myself.
Well nearly 2 months on and tonight we have had the most successful amazing lesson. I am sat here doing this :D:D:D:D. For the first time we managed to trot a 20m circle (more than once as well!:p), we spent most of the lesson trotting and at the end we started to do leg yielding. The icing on the cake was that I mounted from the floor!
I can not express how delighted I am.
My RI said that tonight was the first night she felt I was riding as opposed to being a passenger doing damage limitation. It was also the first night that I asked Kip and when she didn't respond instead of asking again I told her - which cued a bit of stropping around and then when I persisted BINGO! I rode my horse through a strop and came out with what I wanted without stopping and trying again. :D
We still have a very very very long way to go and I'm almost sure that next time I ride Kip in the school she'll test me and we'll take 2 steps back. The difference is now I know we can get better together. :D:D
