Sunny - First canter!

After a series of silly injuries we finally got round to backing Sunny, our 3yo ISH, last week. He was off the lunge in 3 days, trotting in circles and poles by Friday and today offered canter! He also did a 9" X pole quite happily! If all goes well, we'll take him out for a 20 minute hack tomorrow, he doesn't know much about traffic, so that should be fun, but his Aunty June, our pony, is very reliable and hopefully we won't meet much! Needless to say It won't be me riding him, Helen my daughter is the brave one - and much lighter than me - that's my excuse. I'm very proud of both of them!

That is really great how quick he learned. What breed is he anyway?

He's ISH, 16.2, grey or maybe blue roan with a big white blaze. The hack didn't happen as the weather was awful. He has been working in the sand paddock about 10/15 mins a day, after that he says that's enough thank you. He has jumped half barrel - lower than that he can trot over - twice. The traffic round here is so scarey that we might wait till we move house soon - somewhere quieter - before we take him out. I would post a photo - if I knew how!

Well, at last, the boy got out for his first hack today! Just 100 yds along the road, up the lane to the quarry, walk around the quarry and back home. He was ever so good, my daughter Jenny rode him and I went with her on Vicky, I thought Jenny was ever so brave, she's only 14 but has been riding him in the sand paddock and getting on well with him. He had his first shoes on yesterday, Natural Balance, just on the front, he stood with his chin on my shoulder and dozed. From the stroppy 2yo old he was last year, I'm so pleased with him, I'm determined to loose a couple of stone so I can start riding him myself. If I'm allowed!
