Hi Everyone

Have been reading everyone's posts with interest since my last contributions and going on my course in cold cold Gloucestershire.

Course was good and we did a bit of everything - ground work and in saddle including seat training. However, wish I had Dipper there, as the horses that you use are a bit like RS horses - know their job and you still haven't really solved 100% of your problem with your horse!

Anyway - course was worthwhile and learnt a lot about horse psychology.

Had my first lesson today with new instructor (from my last posts you may remember I lost my confidence in 3 short lessons with the last one!!!) Anyway, new instructor had me lunging Dipper, and riding within about 20 mins. She also rode my boy, and confirmed what I had thought all along which was that he is very unstable on one side following his tendon injury, but that this side is not his bad side!! apparantly so much work has been done to get his strength back on his injured side, he has forgotton how to use his uninjured side?? weird or what? Anyway, we are putting a plan of action together, and she made me feel so good about what I have been doing (basic groundwork stuff with him) and confirming my belief about his potential that I forgot all about the confidence and cantering stuff and just got on with it... how good is that!!:):):)

To say I was ready to give up before she came along is not an understatement because of everyone at the yard putting pressure on me to do the things that both he and I were just not ready to do, therefore I am feeling so much happier.

Cobgirl - you are an inspiration! Just knowing there are others out there with similar fears/confidence issues is a real blessing. Thanks if you are looking in on this post.

For anyone else, who is being bullied into something they are not ready to do, or being made to feel inadequate in any way - just look at your horse -if he/she is happy with you and you have a relationship with them, the other stuff (riding, cantering, jumping, hacking solo) will all come I am convinced of that. Everyone has their own approach, perhaps there is no universal - and its just a question of being brave when something/someone is not suiting you!"!!!!!:D:D:D Oumbagirl

Oh wowee, how wonderful that you now have a plan of action. At least you know where you are going with Dipper. So now you will be long-reigning and lunging him? I am only just learning about lunging probably take me as long to lunge as it does to canter!! Ha, ha, yes you and mean in it together, Oumbagirl...I will be ready to canter when I am ready to.

I think we sometimes think that we have to reach a certain level, achieve a certain amount in a certain time? Silly really when we have reached a certain age, that we should know that Rome was not built in a day!

Oh lol, an inspiratiion, never been that before,, thank you, that is an honour. If I can help anyone I will and I am always upfront about what I can and cannot do. Lol, still can't canter!!

Keep us updated regarding Dipper's progress and also your own riding progress. I have a lesson on Thursday and I think I said something about riding bareback, but I must have been having a funny day!!! No just going to do some more pole trotting with saddle I might add!

Cobgirl - I keep seeing this "lol" and other shortforms. What does this mean?
Also, this Friday am having saddle fitter come out to check Dipper's back again. Currently has a 2nd hand english leather, which is OK but is old and I think a more modern synthetic for the winter months (changing shape) etc would not be a bad idea. Had any experience of Thorowgood as its a T4 High Wither I am leaning to? Other than that perhaps a Wintec? Would eventually like to try a treeless - say a heather moffet phoenix but can't run to the cost at present specially after my last jolly!!

So you got the 'lol' sorted out then, lol!!!:D

Some short forms for you and what they mean:

LOL - Laugh out loud
LMAO - Laugh my, er, arse off
ROTFL - Rolling on the floor laughing
IMO - In my opinion
IMPO - In my personal opinion
OMG - Oh my G-d (but I usually say, Oh my gosh!)
BRB - Be right back
OTOH - On the other hand
TIA - Thanks in advance
WDYT - What do you think?
TTFN - TaTa for now
TMI - Too much information
WB - Welcome back
IMHO - In my humble/honest opinion
ITA - I totally agree

That is all I know!!

As for saddles, hmmm, I am sure that there are plenty on this forum that know tons more than me about saddles. Mollie has a saddle that is for basic riding but is also used for jumping as well (not specialised jumping). I know lots of people go treeless and I also know that every so often you have to get the saddle checked to see if if needs reflocking etc.

Mollie has a small issue with her right shoulder, it is slightly more under-developed in one place than the left. So I think that my friend might be getting things checked out soon.

Let us know how it all goes and send pictures of the lovely Dipper!!

Nice to see how happy you are with yourself, horse and RI. A good RI makes all the difference in the world. My new RI makes riding fun again and I'm learning so much. My last one used to get so angry:eek:. He even said he had to quit giving lessons from time to time cause he would get burnt out. I can't even remeber what he taught me, all I remember is the yelling! After that instuctor I gave up riding for @8 years.

bad man:D:D we ought to get all the orrible RI's and put them on a bonfire, let our horses circle them menacingly and then torch it!:D:D:D shouldn't be allowed, but there again there is the old saying, "them that can...do, them that can't... teach" never a truer work spoken I think especially in the lower ranking learning to ride schools, where new born confidence is very easily lost;)
