Hi folks

I am a mature rider returning to the North East after sharing some time in Paris and am looking for a suitable riding school.

My interests are lessons, hacking, jumping and dressage so i am looking for a place that offers all of the above with the intention of eventually buying my own horse (and possibly keeping it at livery).

Anyone with any suggestions or recommendations

Thanks

Hello and welcome home. Which part of the NE will you be living in?

Welcome to Newrider :)

You could try looking on www.bhs.org - they have a list of ABRS registered riding schools in the UK

Hi
Thanks for responses, I have seen websites etc but was hoping for recommendations as i have found that the "glossy web sites" are not all they are cracked up to be.

I will be living in Tyne and Wear but anywhere within a range of about 30 miles of Chester-le-Street will be fine.

Thats a big area! I go to Ivesley which is quite well organised and nice horses - their website is mainly about their riding holidays, but you can get the gist of the lessons on the site. It is BHS approved and holds a couple of BE events each year; so lessons cover dressage, jumping and xc. They even do a bit of side saddle.

Yes many people on this site are in Chester le Street (I'm not) and if you want to ride there I'm sure they will be along to give you some suggestions. I do know that Pockerley is well thought of too. And some like Penshaw, although I've heard mixed reviews.

Don't really know anywhere North of the Tyne.

Here are some sites

Do let us know where you go and how you get on.

Very best wishes

Hi folks

just got in after spending a very pleasant (but cold) afternoon riding. I managed to get out on a hack for about an hour on a 16h+ solid almost bomb proof cob. She looked after me quite well. We did lots of trotting and a nice steady canter (on the way home).

Will wait to give location etc after a few more sessions to confirm inital thoughts.

A most enjoyable day!
