I lied last time, lesson 4 post was actually lesson 5 :D

Just got back from lesson six, it was a little more eventful than the last one, we still had problems getting an active walk, even bigger probs with an active trot and canter well what can I say!!!

HOWEVER the main teacher there (not my teacher) actually owns this horse and told my RI to give my spurs  (apparantly an honour, he wouldn't let just anyone certainly not someone he's not teachin) i've never ridden with them before and to be honest didn't like the idea, but she'd started throwing in a few tiny half hearted bucks if I gave her a tap but they were gettin bigger, they know her best an I guess she goes better with spurs than a tap, at first she was still a little sluggish but she was better, we eventually managed a full circuit (half the school) in canter, a lovely canter too, really active trot and even a little leg yielding  yes you heard right :D

I was shattered today before I started and didn't relish the idea of a battle but yet again after a few little bunny hops a fairly good sized bunny hop (wouldn't call it a buck after riding a fella who liked handstands years ago :D) a battle for anythin I requested, I came away with a great big smile and wobbley legs!!!

Hey - well done :D

Sounds like the spurs have the same effect on the horse as my schooling whip - they stop messing about and get on with it as you obviously mean business!

I used to ride a RS pony who really didn't appreciate constant nagging of the legs, and would rather have a quick nip of a spur and then no pressure at all to remind her of what she was doing.

Well done on your lesson! :)

Wow, spurs. I'd be scared too, worried I'd jab too much by accident. I've never used them either. Sounds like you handled yourself really well and had a nice lesson. Congrats.:)

Well done - looking forward to the update on lesson No. 7. Any sign of acquiring your own horse yet!! Were they rubber spurs?

a well done from me too! i had spurs on last week resulting in a buck from pony - so ive been told to take them off! just shows how different they all are - makes you more aware of your legs too which helps with position i think

I find on this particular horse position goes out the window whatever I do, why I don't know, she's more like what I used to ride build wise but I look like I'm on a rockin chair on her, I can't keep still, must admit I was very conscious last night and from the knee down I was still, no they weren't rubber
Anne, I've got my loan at the mo but to be honest I think it will be a very long time before I could afford to get my own, time is a big factor too there is no-where local to keep a horse, your talkin about 10 mile trip for a decent yard, 7 days a week would be too much with that sort of distance and work etc
NOTE TO ME: Must check lottery tickets! :D
