Hi,

As i've just started out, i'm looking to buy some riding clothes. But havent got a clue where to start or how much things normally cost without getting ripped off! what would you priorising in getting first? Also does anyone know what size i will be i'm a 8/10 but things seem to come in "

Thanks

Hi

I am approx size 10, so my first jodhs were 26" (I've moved up to a 28" now:o). They do vary between makes though. I paid around £26 each for them, they are thick cotton/Lycra mix.

I got plain leather short boots, they were about £26-28, and paid around £18 for Shires fake suede half chaps.

The priciest part is the riding hat, please make sure you get it fitted as different styles suit different shaped heads! You can expect to pay £40-50, although if you fit a childs size they work out cheaper.

Enjoy your shopping!

Are you in Brighouse near Sheffield? if so take a trip to Horse and Rider in Crooks, they are resonably priced and have nice staff.

I think Riding hat, boots and jods (in that order) are probably what you should consider getting. Make sure your riding hat has a british standard kite mark as many riding schools require this.

So, I got A champion ventair hat which was quite expensive but very comfy (£90), Short boots (£30), Shires half chaps (£14) and Gorringe 400 jods (£28).

Moody Mares in Mythenroyd is a lovely shop. They are really helpful and have great stuff in shop and on line.
Hooves at Birkenshaw is also good.

Yup I so agree! I had been out of riding for 40 years and when I came back only had a really old pair of paddock boots. :D Got all my gear on Ebay including hard velvet hat, skull hat, 2 pairs of joddies, 3 pairs of boots including rubber boots, crop and gloves, for £120. I bidded for some and bought others new. Oh forgot my Dickies riding jacket, brand new, forest green with corduroy collar and quilted inside for £4.99!

I am an Ebay freak anyway!!

I love ebay generally, but I can't stop myself getting horsey stuff on there. I agree about prequestrian they're my main source of money draining!
