Just a question about rear saddle pad risers in particular.

I had the saddler out yesterday in the hope of getting a reasonably priced saddle for my boy. He is a 16'2 Belgian Warmblood with very high withers, 6 years old and not quite as filled out as he should be, saddler commented that his topline could do with some improvement but we are embarking on a flatwork regime which should help with all of that.

We tried to Wintec 2000 with Cair with a medium gullet and it fitted well everywhere with the exception of the back end of the saddle. It was raised slightly. The saddler has advised that I can use a back riser pad on a temporary basis until he fills out a bit more and his topline improves. We put one on and the saddle immediately lay correctly on his back and the gullet remained well clear of his withers with the pad on. I rode in it and Arion seemed quite happy, even standing still to be mounted which is a first for him. I felt a bit higher than normal but it was quite comfy for me too.

To my question then (finally:rolleyes:). Would it be ok to use the saddle with the riser pad for a few months until I can get back to work and buy him a "made to order" saddle? My saddler said it would be ok, but then he is trying to sell me a saddle - not that I distrust him but I would like to know if anyone rides with a riser pad and what you think of them in general?
