Quittor??????? help!

My horse is suspected of having quittor.Has anyone come across this before? did there horse make a good recovery with just anti-biotics? or did they need an operation as well?

I know its an infection of the lateral cartilage surrounding the pedal bone.Thts it really,the vets think its probably the after effect of his founder.

I'm afraid ours had to have an operation. There was loads of pus coming out of his heels and we tried for weeks to treat it with antibiotics and poulticing, but it would heal and then return etc (about three times). The collateral cartilage was all removed (it was really rotten apparently) and his foot was in a cast for two weeks. He then had to wear a bandage until the stitches were removed and to keep it clean until the wond had healed - he had about 6weeks box rest altogether. Once it was healed he had no further problems with it and went back into full work.
