My pony has a fine but fairly deep crack that runs through the middle of all four frogs. Its not major but Im wondering why they are there in all her frogs. Could it be because the feet are too dry? She only gets turn out in a dry sand school due to lami issues and is on a dry bed other times so I wonder if that is it? How should I treat them? Thank you so much.

sounds like she has a deep central sulcus, do the cracks look like these?

chances are she'll have some thrush in there but the sand will help with that. are they smelly at all?

Thank you very much. Yes quite like that. She did have terrible thrush but we have been treating it agressively with cleantracks and similar and really are on top of it now. Its seems that we have now gotten rid of the thursh definitely in three hooves but the cracks have appeared which is why I wondered wether it was due to purposely keeping the feet so dry as we are now?
Three of them are dry in the crack and dont smell at all but one of them has a cheesy smell and there is a small amount of foul smelling creamy stuff within the cleft when I stick a hoofpick in it. The vet has seen this as doesnt seem to concerned by it and just says to keep it clean. You actually think the sand getting in there will help? We were booting her feet to prevent any such thing happening as we thought if germs debris got in there it would ecasperate the problem?

Sorry to disagree but sand is not a good idea if you have a deep central sulcus. Can you start packing the cracks with sudocreme?

NAF MSM cream is even better IME, makes bugs really unhappy and is thicker to stays in there longer. Sand can irritate deep cracks in the frog.

sorry didn't really phrase that well, i meant the sand would help the frog widen out and firm up, wont it? but yes will irritate if they are deep cracks.
