I'm organising a 2 Day camp for Adults.
Friday eve to Sunday eve ~ in April time.

It will be as title says, for late starters, and genuine novices over 30!

Classes, and lessons all in a group, including
XC, flatwork exercises, SJ, Gymkhana games etc.
Stable management hints & tips, Horse care, feeding, health etc.

Advice from qualified & sympathetic instructors,

Being laughed at by people in similar situation is free!

So, if you're in the South East, fancy meeting like minded, same aged, same situation riders in a non-competitive, and informative setting ~ come join us on our Over 30, and back in the saddle Adult Camp.

For more details, PM me. X

Sounds fun - how novice is novice? Being that I comfortably reach the age requirements but am very much a beginner!

Ok, when I say over 30 ~ I'm just inferring that no 18 year olds!

I'm sure you know what I mean!! :D

We recently had a "Novice" showjumping day, and it was advertised for "genuinely novice, adult riders to learn all about SJ-ing"

On the day, we had plenty of those, but also LOTS of teenagers who'd been riding for few years, and TBH, it was bit off putting. (Nothing against teens, but wasn't who we was aiming for!)

Doesn't matter how novice you are, as long as you are genuinely novice.

sounds great, but then i never really know what 'novice' is
What's your description of novice?
I'm a tad bit over 30 started riding a year ago (properly anyway!) but not sure if i would still come under 'novice' catagory :p

that sounds like fun!
As I've been riding since I was 7 I can't really join in...
I would love to join 'an adult pony club' if there was such a thing...as missed out as child as didn't get own horse until I was 18.
The riding club I belong to does 'clinics' but I crave fun class lessons on my own horses with other mature riders....so its social as well as learning.
And a chance to drill riding, pairs dressage etc.

Does anyone do this sort of thing? or am I just sad!!!

It sounds great, I've fancied something like that since I took my daughter to pony club camp and wanted to stay :D

Afraid its too far away for me.

Also too energetic, XC Showjumping  Not anymore.

Anyone want to organise one in the North which involves gentle hacks, pub rides and proper beds (hate the camping bit)

Oh and by the way dont leave out us old stiff and past it riders who didn't start late and aren't novice just knackered :D.

There is one in the area, think it's called Horse Camp.

By novice I mean, been riding under 5 years ~ or rode as a kid, then got back into it, so know the terms etc.

I know some people will think they've been riding 3 years, and are pretty damn good, or others who've been riding 10 years, and still class themselves as novice ~ it really depends on your own valuation of yourself.

It is meant to be just good fun, lots of laughs and learning. It's not a drill camp, it's a holiday camp!.... so pack up you and your horse, and come on down!!

:D:):D:)

I would love to

Problem is the horse is worse than me, he'd never make the trip (32).

We've been together for 26 years and both worthy of the term knackered :D

Only reason he tolerates the ladder I need to get on these days

Bet you have a great time, cant wait to see the pics :D

Is this for only people who bring their own horse?
Is it only for people who jump?

Yes, you will need your own horse (or a friend to lend you theirs!)

No, you don't need to jump.

Ohhhhh!;):D Ah yes. Well then much too experienced for this one by the sounds of it, plus its not in your neck of the woods:p Am sure I have seen more though advertised elsewhere occasionally. I suppose the grown up version is to go to a clinic of your choice:)

I am disappointed that people with no horses wont be able to come.

This is a camp for people who have been learning less than 5 years?
It never seemed sensible to me to buy a horse until I had been learning for five years. It is the same with Parelli. There are already too many things tempting learners to buy a horse too soon in their riding career.

I'm in Brighton and I'm definitely up for it. i don't have a horse right now but am hoping to have one by then.

Can't wait to hear more.

That would be perfect - only I haven't got a horse :(
....if only there were some places that did this and you could hire a horsey pal....

umm, how low on the novice scale are we talking?
Because I'm at about the 'can rise to trot' stage. any mention of jumping and I run for the hills

Have serious confidence issues when on board too, tears and shakes - the lot.

Am prob too much a novice :o

I'd love to be able to attend something like this too. Alas, I am also without a 4 legged friend to bring along :(

It is a shame that we can't supply you with horses, but to be honest, it is a camp, not a riding holiday!

Hopefully people can understand what we are trying to "get" at, and will come along, have fun, have a laugh, and maybe (if you're very good) the odd glass of vino!!!! :D

Transport's my issue, otherwise, sounds like fun. I've always fancied an adult camp.:) I have a trailer but it's very lightweight and old. I can really only use it for very short distances and that doesn't include tackling the M25. Not sure how novice as well. I've been riding for longer than 5 years and am confident on Sen, but not for jumping, my bete noire.

I can't go :( I'm not over 30 and I have ridden for 18yrs even though I lack alot of confidence!

I'd love to give it a go, but transport is going to be an issue for me too as I haven't any!!

When and where are you thinking of running it?

Hi,

Just thought Id tell you about the one I organised in October with 7 other friends.

It was held at a local XC course and we stayed there for two days as a taster.

We organised an instructor and did SJ and XC and generally had a ball!

Our whole aim was to have fun and not to push any boundaries unless you wanted too. Im happy to say we all pushed ourselves to do things we wouldnt normally have the nerve to do (i.e jumping on the XC course!) and the support from each other was great.

Definately recommend you get someone in to do the catering!!!

We are planning on going back in June for 3-4 days next year and no doubt there will be a few more of us as word has got around!!:D

Have a great time!
