Janne moved to her new yard on Saturday. She came off the lorry about 6.30pm in the dark and walked calmly to her stable. She was a bit sweated up, not from the trip, but from being stabled prior to loading. Bit strange really as she will happily stay in on her own overnight.
Went back to help the guy close the big ramp on the lorry and when I got back she was standing with her bum to the door. She looked round at me and I couldn't help laughing. She had crammed as much straw in her mouth as she could, there were clumps hanging out and her cheeks were bulging like a hamster. In the short time I'd been she had managed to eat more than half of the fresh straw I'd used to fluff up her bed.
Anyway, got her settled and put a fleece on her. There was a party at the yard that night so I had no choice but to let her settle in quietly (I would have constantly badgered her otherwise). I kept going out to check on her and she was so laid back she was almost horizontal.
Yesterday she was even more laid back when I went to muck her out so I've stopped worrying. I checked on her again last night and she was lying down. She stayed down when I went in and we had a lovely snuggling session. That's the first time ever, cos she's been out 24/7 since I got her.
Now the not-so-good part. She's only 2 miles from my house so I had visions of spending oodles of time with her. Hah! The best laid plans and all that. Small son has chosen now to get ill so he's off school. Hubby refuses to leave the house any later than 7am even though he's on flexitime, so I had to get up at 5am to muck out etc and be back before hubby left for work. I'll be stuck at home all day playing Florence Nightingale while my horsie is only 2 miles away (previously she was 40 miles away) and I so want to ride and spend time with her.
Anyway, I'm so glad that she's here now and I can go play whenever I want to. Roll on son's convalescence.
