Well its now 5 weeks since i got my boy and things are looking up. Despite my earlier worries about his brakes not working and initial panics about the responsibility i have taken on its all lookin good. Been working really hard on his reschooling (for those of you who might not know he is an ex p2p who had begun schooling but still had a way to go). Took him (and me) right back to the basics, walk halt, walk halt, circles, serpentines, walking over poles etc. Today i rode and for the first time i could really notice the difference. Despite a slight hitch when it took me about 5 goes at mounting! Just couldnt get on then started giggling so as a result took me ages to get on, poor oscar kept lookin at me with what can only describe as confusion and decided to join in the fun and lean everytime i put foot in stirrup!!! Cheeky boy that one! Anyway, eventually got on and took myself around the manage. He did is first ever proper cirle, other times they have tended to be a bit more square! I really felt he was listening to me. After a bit more work in walk i asked for a trot and i got the most beautiful trot ever. Was so balanced and he didnt try to rush it like he used to, walked again when asked and halted perfectly, i felt truly in control and remembered that i can ride!! was starting to doubt myself and thought all the years of lessons had been a bad dream!!
Anyway sorry to go on but just needed to share my fantastic day. Lets hope things keep going this way and when i have a bad day which is inevitable i need to remember how i felt when i got off ( or fell off actually!! leant back as dismounted and nearly ended up on floor!! maybe mounting and dismounting lessons should be my next move)
Hurrah for all our wonderful horses and how happy they make us!
