I'm considering entering my first dressage to music class soon and I'm not sure whether to try to create my own music or to pay for it to be done for me. Could anyone who has tried dressage to music answer a few questions please:)?
How much should I expect to pay for music to accompany a Novice level test of about 3 mins? Is it much more expensive for more complicated/longer tests?
Does anyone have any recommendations of professional services?
Any tips, suggestions or warnings?!:o
Many thanks for all your help :).

dunno if this will help or not
but i have been off work sick---- watching horse and country tv stopped me going mental !:)
anyway there was a company selling a dvd called dressage divas---for planning your own test to music--you can download your choice of music onto pc/cd/mp3 player
you input your test -- can set the rhythm to own horses paces etc etc
apparently you order from www.horseandcountry.tv (hope that's right-it's from memoryand i was very sleepy)
the companies name was equitech i think
sounds like a good idea but i haven't had a chance to look it up yet---anybody else had a look at it????
might be cheaper than getting someone else to edit for you--who knows?
:)

If it is being run to BD rules the test will need to be between 4½ and 5 minutes long.
Dressage divas CD is OK as it will guide you through the process and you can even design your test on the program.
For professional music I would expect to be paying around £50 if they are choosing the music for you as well. Less if you are choosing yourself and the are just cutting/linking it for you.

Many thanks for your advice Lgd:). The 'test' I have my eye on is at a fun show - it mustn't be longer than 3 mins but apart from that I can do pretty well what I want. I thought this would be a good starting point to see if we can do it with an audience:eek::D
However, if this went well I would be looking to do it properly at a prelim - novice level. If you don't mind me asking, what do you get for £50 - do you supply a dvd of you riding or do you send in timings and ask them to do the editing?
Apologies for all the questions but I'd love to do this but don't want to make a fool of myself if it can be helped:o:D

Usually supply a video/dvd of the horse in walk trot and canter, plus actual beats per minute timed for the paces (videos in particular can be a few beats off on actual timing). The video lets them see what 'shape' of music might suit the horse or improve its paces - music with the correct bpm may look wrong, no use using heavy metal for a dainty TB with flat paces :D Timings lets them put it at the correct speed. They will then choose music and join it together.
If you want music already done in bpm to do your own Isabell Werth has a range of CDs. They are now available in the UK for £25 each  you can get them direct from Germany for 22 euros i.e. £15 There are about 40 in the series now. I have a fair few of them.
http://www.musik-zum-reiten.com has quite a few of them on and lists the tracks, they also have some at a cheaper price
other sites that have them are (I've ordered from both of these)

LGD - where do I find out about Freestyle to Music classes? Will it be in the usual BD schedules? It's something I've always wanted to have a go at but I've never seen any in my area. Mind you, I only ever look at the shows on the days I'm free to compete so I may just be overlooking them. Can you help?

I'm off with a knee injury at the moment but might be well enough to make the ones in May.
