You're better off paying more and getting the really good stuff, it will last longer and wear better.

I paid just under £100 for my Mattes numnah, its lambskin, fully lined, much much softer than Stephens, Nuumed, Cottage Craft and the like. I haven't yet needed to wash it since getting it in March, it's been fantastic.

I always wanted a Stephens one, but now I wouldn't look twice at them as they just aren't as soft.

Robinsons have them from £36 for a jumping pad - £60 for a full numnah with the rolled edges.
They have 2 other styles that are £40 each too.

Still not that cheap, but the cheapest i've seen so far.

now.......at the risk of sounding stupid............why do people use SHEEPSKIN numnahs?? just curious. I myself only use normal saddlecloths and numnahs.

Cheapest thing to do is buy a cheap sheepskin from a market or similar and cut it to size.

I have never used them before - i have managed to buy a second hand one from a friend but need a back up one for when i wash it- My saddler told me to use one to keep the saddle off his back for a while. Something to do with him being a showjumper and now not jumping but going back to dressage and his back muscles changing. She is a registered master saddler so i did as she said - i have to say they are lovely - like sitting on a cushion x

I used them on my mare because her skin is quite sensitive anyway, also for some reason when she moults she looses her winter coat too quickly and ended up quite bald, so use the numnah and girth cover and to prevent any rubbing.

Do you guys have "The Saddlery Warehouse" over there?
You can get bartl ones foraround $40 were on specail at $20 on the weekend but only had poy dressage version unfortuantly.
They are shaped ones with sheepskin like a 1/4 pad on them.

Sheepskin is excellent at pressure absorption and is also very good at retaining sweat without feeling damp and tacky. Very cushy and comfortable for the horse but it can affect the fit of the saddle (if the saddle already fits, adding a sheepskin pad will make the saddle too narrow).
