We jumped today, in the rather soggy school, and my boy decided that jumping scary paddling pools draped over jumps was easy, but non-flapping normal jumps ate horses (sigh).
So we went: canter canter cantercanterswervebuckbuckbuckbuck into one part of the double. So tried the second part on its own and got canter canter canter canterswervebuckbuckbuckbuck. We kept going at the same jump (with steadily increasing growls/kicks from me) until finally we cleared it in the style of: canter canter 'you will clear this if I have to kick and kick and...JUMP. Well, repeat that with the other half of the double, then try to jump the whole thing. What fun! Of course we can't jump the whole thing, don't be stupid! So we went: canter canter hop jumpreallyfunny oops nearly lost mummy buck buck oops there's another jump swerve buck buck buck!
Grrr! Normally he jumps doubles/bounces/most things absolutely fine :( even in the wet. We had all sorts of scary jumps out there that, after perhaps one look, he jumped without problems, even a spread that was quite wide for him and took him a few goes to jump without knocking the back pole.
When we finally did the double, it was two strides, not amazingly short or long for him. So why all the trouble? It was only 70cm!
