Hi all! :)

In my search for bit-perfection for Fills, I've just bought the myler eggbut comfort snaffel, ported with an optional curb chain. It looks lovely and has copper bands and a nice port. Fills goes better in a ported, straight bar, and has a lovely soft mouth, so fingers crossed, this might suit her.

Have any of you got a myler in use/ used one before? How have you found them? :)

Here's my purchase:

I rode a friend's horse in one. Looked awful before I put it on, more like an instrument of torture than a bit! but once friend explained how it worked, it seemed really gentle. Horse loved it, went really well and was lovely and soft.

It took some getting used to with hooks and so on but I was impressed with how this mare went.

Don't have one myself but it's something I'd be happy to try.

I've got a similar one, though with a higher port. Never used it with the curb chain, though I think it's a useful option that I may well try out in the future. My horse went very well in it and my pony goes as well in that as in anything else

I really like their bits and the reasoning behind them, plus the horses I've known that have tried them have all generally gone well in them. I'm saving up for a combination bit at the moment to see what that's like :)

ooh your mare is like mine (see my post about bits in tack and saddlery bit)

Mine is in a kimblewick at the moment but i would like to change it, she too prefers a straight bar ported bit.

So how do these Myler bits work then? and are they compettion/dressage legal?

There are some dressage legal, combinations not allowed junior BSJA though.

This will explain better than I can:

Some mylers are dressage legal. Look for the snaffles without hooks.

The mylers WITH hooks are NOT legal, but are fine to train in.

Thats the exact same "model" i bought for Lady after being to a myler clinic and talking about her problems. Was okay in it for about a month then decided she didn't like it anymore and its sitting in my tackroom. She has done this with a variety of bits, I have more bits than i no what to do with, in the end she has settled in a magic bit, Cheapest of the lot too might i add. lol Has been in it for nearly two years now and still likes it.:D

I got mine on ebay for 25quid, it would have been about 55pounds new. They have alsort of combination mylers etc on there atm and will be much cheaper than buying them new. If Fills doesn't go well in this, i will prob re-sell it on there. :)

Thanks everyone, it's good to hear how you've found them. My ears pricked up when i read about mylers because they seem to have good explanations with all the bits, ii like the variety of bits they do, the fact that some of them have the copper in them and you can get these snaffles with a straight, ported bar, but with the option of making the bit stronger if needs be. Here's hoping anyway! :o
