Well had a lesson this morning, there I was feeling full of confidence. My instructor telling me I looked so much more relaxed this week and giving me lots of praise. Bubsy was really forward going, the mere mention of trot and he was off, kept having to slow him down. I'm grinning at my friend Becky whose watching me...I go into canter I'm thinking how great it is going fast...till Busby must also get the same idea cos he goes faster...and faster, I loose a stirrup, and bang I'm on the floor hit my head on the fence do a somersault and land flat on my arse in the wettest muddiest bit of the menage!!! Everyone looks at me with pure horror!!! I got up and got back on though and wasn't hurting at all! Busby was looking at me as if to say "what on earth are you doing over there!" My arm is sore now though! I have the tiniest little scrape on my knee!!! All in all I still loved it! My first time falling off! I must be nuts.
My instructor said to me, you really must try and stay on instead of trying to dismount...haha I wasn't TRYING to dismount it just happened!!!

Awww, I hope you are feeling ok. Always best to get the first fall out of the way so that you don't spend too long anticipating it and get worried about it.:D

Yes, that's one down, countless more to go.
I think it's 9 falls until you're a jockey :D

Morganna's post hit the nail right on, at least for me. This is exactly what's been on my mind lately, anticipate falling off. I didn't fall off this weekend but I did horribly in general. NOTHING went right. I was bouncing all over the place, no balance, bad position, hard time staying on the saddle....and on the horse for that matter! :p I didn't have my regular RI and my stirrup length bothered me from the start (eventhough it was adjusted) so that could have contributed to my miserable lesson last Saturday .
sorry you fell off, but congratz for doing it! At least now you can say you did it and you know how it feels. ;)

lol Thats it over and done with now! It took me ages to fall off when i started back at the riding school, it finally happened 1 year later in the xc field, horse stopped and i jumped it on my own! lol.

Ah 5 more falls till you'll get the real hang, oh believe me you'll fall off more than that, I have fell off just around 6-7 and now, my seat is SO much more secure, and I can handle a horse bolting, and hollowing its back out suddenly, pig-rooting, and it is such a better feeling.

Ouch! I hope you arent aching too much! But the most important thing here is that it was the first time you fell off, and it hasnt knocked your confidence.......well done girl!

Shoulders and arms are sore this morning! I just want next Monday to hurry up so I can try again. And I agree with what everyone says about worrying about falling off, as I was falling, along with "I hope this doesn't hurt" and "oh no not the fence" I was thinking "YES I'm falling off thats that over with!" Untill next time!!!!:p

Tehe! awww i could totally imagine that!. The first time I fell off It was weird, I knew it was going to happen and actually landed on my feet, looking back I may have atually jumped off in fear of falling off. *ponders*

Can't remember the first time i fell off the first decade of riding but since starting again at 23 i can remember most of the falls and i'm ashamed to say there's def. more than 9 :D The first time i fell off again when i restarted riding was on an ex. dressage horse doing a very very small crosspole. I was warned to keep my leg on because he might spook at the pole as it was first time round on changed rein. Low and behold i just dawdled into it and whoomph, within a second i was sitting on my bum. Most of my falls have occured from jumping errors, think there's probably only 3 that were from bucking/bronc episodes. You'd think that would tell me to give up with the jumping eh :)
