Hi, I think this question got lost on my other thread so...
I'm trying to find a saddle to fit my bum. Can you please tell me what size saddle you use if you are a larger gal like me? i'm 5'7" and 180 lbs or about 13 or 14 stone I think.
thanks a bunch!

I am a larger rider around 14-15 stone. I barely fit in an 18 inch, but then I carry most of my weight in my rear. I would try out an 17 1/2 or an 18 inch saddle. My trainer who is 5'7 and weighs 140 pounds takes a 17 1/2 due to her long leg length, she is mostly legs! :p

Here is a good way to find the right seat size for you
http://www.thorowgood.com/uk/size_guide/seat_size.htm
I myself have a 17" seat for english, 15" for western.

thanks for the link!
Seems like I need an 18" saddle. My lease horse's owner is sooo petite, her saddle is probably a 16".

Is that becasue of her size though or the length of the horses back. I would be very careful, especially if you are looking to go a lot bigger.
You see according to that chart I should have a 17" saddle, but I ride in a 16" (or maybe even 15.5") becasue thats what fits my pony!

Hmm, hadn't thought about it making a difference in the horse's fit. This is for a 15.1h mustang though, so hopefully wont be too big. In fact, I impulsively bought a used 17" saddle from ebay this week- so hopefully it will fit us both, or I'll have to resell it!

according to that i need an 18" saddle  i ride in a 16 inch on one horse (can't fit in smaller and that the largest he can comfortably carry as he has long loins hence short back).. my other horse has a 17.5 inch saddle and i feel a bit small in it. think i'm happiest in a 16.5inch/17inch
ETA: both of my saddles are dressage saddles and fairly deep seats

I'm 5'6-7, maybe 9stone (not weighed myself for ages) and ride a 14.2 in a 17" saddle.
Also, take into account that a saddle with a deeper seat will be "tighter", ie you'll need a bigger size. A saddle with a flatter/more shallow seat will accomodate a larger derriere better. For example, my Mum is 5'7, about 13 stone I think. In my old saddle, she felt a bit squashed, I felt fine, in my current one, until I got used to it I felt like I was swimming, and she feels a lot better!

Really depends on the saddle and how that saddle is designed.
I would highly recommend you find a place to at least sit in different sized saddles you are interested in.
I sat in a Bate Innova a couple of weekends ago..am 5' 6 1/2" tall and 160lbs abts.. and the
18" size 2 seat felt perfect.
A friend who is the same size thought it was too big and liked the 17' seat.
I also ride in a 17 1/2" Thorowgood endurance,
16" Treefree, my flex panel is 16" and so on.
I have never found those online..guess the saddle size you need.. working well. You really do need to sit in the saddles you are looking at.

I'm 7.5 stone and i could get my arse into a 14inch.
but my horse is 16.3 and needed (according to saddler a 17inch or an 18inch) i thought i'd be lost in an 18 so went for the 17 :)

i'm about 5'5", 140lb, and I use an 18" saddle. I think they go up to 20". Western would probably be about 16", aussie 17"... I can stuff myself into a 17", although I like 18" better, lol.
