Ok I know folk who wear chaps with jeans is that so the inside seam does not rub so much or just for show? Also what makes of jeans don't have an inside (leg) seam?

Cheers,

Daniel

Hi, Daniel!

I wear half-chaps and jeans, but the half-chaps are to give me a little extra grip on the saddle (I ride english), and also to protect my legs from thorny undergrowth when I ride in the woods. I don't think they'd offer any protection from the inside seam of jeans. And I partly wear them just because I like the way they look!

I think Wrangler jeans don't have an inside seam. I've never had much problem with the seam - I ride in men's Levi's, and since I'm a woman, the legs are a little wide on me.

Jeans can be very uncomfortable. Full chaps will help alot. Jeans with no seams are an improvement, better still are soft material trousers - available from camping/outdoor shops. They are made from a light soft material.

If you are just starting out, it's not so much of a problem, but as you get better and ride harder, chaffing becomes more and more of a problem.

I've finally succumbed and now wear jodpurs and half chaps, even if I do look like an extra from the film 'Robin Hood, Men In Tights'.

Chaps would be an alternative - but for some reason I'm not keen, especially in the Summer.

Another suggestion was to wear thin jodpurs or even tights under your jeans.

I was riding again yesterday in Lee Cooper jeans for my one hour lesson, which was mostly trot and canter in the corral and this morning I feel fine so I don't think I will buy any judphers. As where I will hopefully be riding most folk ride western anyway.

I might get a pair of chaps though.
