Chrissies fronts are both in a right mess - post lami in summer. She's had an abscess in one plus WLD. Now there's WLD in the other. Have been soaking in apple cider vinegar for 2 weeks now with only minor improvement. Did a Borax soak this am and turned her out (onto snow!). Prior to lami (what a long time ago) had some good results with equitech hoof hardner which I believe has some anti-bacterial stuff in it aswell. Could I start using that now or would it stop infection getting out of hoof? Sorry for stupidness but new to all these blinkin hoof ailments... Would sudocrem be better?
And on it goes.... would be nice to have a horse I could ride..

I use Antibac for any hoof infections, including WLD. Recommended by my farrier, other farriers on the yard & my vet. As well as treating infection it hardens the hoof so may be worth a try until you've got the WLD& abcess under control.

Soaking with milton or other baby sterilisers works really well, or if WLD is really bad clean trax is good but expensive and a faff so would only use it if really needed.
What's in that hoof hardener? If its a formaldehyde one it should be ok since formaldehyde kills bugs off anyway. Maybe put it on the wall and not on the white line if you're worried about trapping stuff in there.

Thanks. Where can I get Antibac - did a search but couldn't source it?
Also, please reassure me that its normal for there to be heat in her two fronts at the moment....

I get mine from a local farriers shop but in the past I've ordered from www.tfp.uk.com, it's in the live shopping section under hoofcare or give them a call.
I don't know about the heat in the front feet, I take it it isn't normal for her? I've heard people say barefoot hooves tend to be warmer than shod ones but I can't say I've noticed much difference between my shod horse & unshod pony. I do know that I usually get some heat & a raised pulse with an abcess if that's any use to you? I'm not an expert though, I only know about the things I've had to deal with.
