Fizz and I are just having a brain storming session about organising a sponsored walk on foot to raise money for charity! I want to start doing stuff in my spare time and I would like to do something worthwhile like helping out those in need...

Not sure which charity to go for yet and it would either be dog, horse or human! Or maybe do 3 seperate walks throughout the year... Human I would prefer it to be a cancer charity as my brother died from cancer of the bowell at a very young age and I have a friend who has two sisters who are both very ill with cancer just now... Any ideas? And would anyone like to join us? Dogs would be welcome I will be taking mine and promise to have him on his best behaviour!

I have done a tonne of charity events with my work this year, slightly charitied out to be honest :o

Our last one was last week working for barnardos for a day seeing how much money we could raise. We ended up in Edinburgh collecting with one of our colleagues dressed up as pink panther.

Main things that seem to go down a hit are tombola’s and home baking.

Someone in my team did the Edinburgh Marathon for retired greyhound charity also. Theres also second chance kennels in the area as well.

Let us know if you go ahead as my work also do a scheme were they match what you have made so double the contribution. You make £300 my work provide £300 and then you have £600 for your chosen charity.

My friend is keen to do the Moonwalk this year, but 26 miles seems a tad enthusiastic to me at the moment!!

You can do the half moon walk which is 13 miles! I am hoping to do the full one though...

Have you done the Moonwalk before? I'd like to do it, but a bit worried I wouldn't make it - friend of a friend did one and had to quit at about 19 miles! I am keen to find out how much prep folk have done for it (unless you are all super-fit already - I definitely don't fall into that category!:p) Did the Great Scottish Walk the past few years ok, but must admit, didn't feel overly keen to keep going on the day...

The great scottish walk started off as an Edinburgh event, and has been on the go for a few years now. They are also holding a walk in Glasgow this year too. Edinburgh date is 22 June, the Glasgow one is 25 May. The full walk is 12 miles, but they try to cater for all abilities and have a 6 mile and golden mile versions and various "wee walks" are held which are aimed at children.

Basically there is a small registration fee, and you select a charity to raise money for - they have a list of affiliated charities you can select from, if you have a particular charity that you want to raise money for and they're not on the list, you can contact the charity and see if they can register with the walk organisers. I think you can also raise money for their own charity which then gets split between various local causes... can't remember the details!

Folk gather for the Edinburgh one at Meadowbank, and then head down to the Park for the official start. The first mile through the park is always the worst! After that it's all good fun - well, I have done the past few and survived! :p

Here's the website, but it doesn't seem to be fully up and running yet.

My friend is keen to do the Moonwalk, and thought the great scottish walk would be good prep, but it's later than usual this year, so there goes that plan!

My friend and I are down for the half moon walk in Edinburgh next year. Not sure what to expect. We do go to the gym 3 times a week. But think when the slightly warmer weather comes, we will have to go out and start walking some distance.

You are making me feel guilty! At the moment I am only thinking about going to the gym 3 times a week!!! I do try and do a step class once a week, but what with work and horse, just don't seem to have enough hours in the day... Hmmm... New Year resolution no 3: be better organised! :o

Don't know the route for the half moon walk (think they maybe vary it ), but the great scottish walk is certainly an ok distance - just need to watch out for blisters - wear good socks! I'm just not sure about moving up to the full distance...

No probs - here's the link to the website again, but it seems to be a bit gubbed at the moment, you have to manually type the web address to get to some of the pages!
