Riding schools/hacking in Blackpool??

I am moving to Blackpool in about three weeks to start a University course.

Does anyone know a good riding school that is bikable distance or accesable by public transport from the sea frount.

I would also be interested in horse shareing or working for rides once i settle down and get my finances sorted out. I've been riding for 10 years and have spent the last 3 years working at a yard at the weekends

Hi Jaz!

It depends on what you want to do & what level of riding you are at...

There is a school that just does hacks (either beach or "countryside") in Bispham on mainly Welsh Cobs (I learned to ride there!)

Two good schools are on Midgeland Road in Marton (bit more difficult to get to, though there is possibly a bus) where you can ride their horses. One has indoor school the other an outdoor one. Nicer horses there.

My memory is faltering a bit now (moved away 6 years ago). I found it really hard to find somewhere to have lessons if you don't have a horse of your own. Try & see if there is a horse riding club at the Uni when you join, or even start up your own! They will then arrange group lessons with transport & usually at a discount.

Which college are you going to? If it is Blackpool & Fylde, that is really close to the cob/hack place, which if my memory serves me right (& it is still there) was called Beach Mount.

I'm not too worried about lessons I can have them at my old yard when Im here for the weekends and in hols.

I just wouldnt mind something to keep me going in between. Im not sure If I can afford lessons every week on my student load so the odd hack out might be just the thing.

Yes! That's where Beach Mount was. The hacks were cheap so I used to go quite a lot!

If it's not there anymore (and Midgeland Rd is too far / expensive) try the Blackpool & Fylde Riding club. They organise the local shows every month - you might catch the last show of the season in September. Thornton always used to be the 1st Sunday of the month, so B'pool I *think* was the 2nd Sunday (but could be 3rd/4th if I'm wrong). You should be able to find it in a field opposite Stanley Park. I'll try a map link again!
