I have a set of standard Wintec gullets, and have had very little use out of any of them except the whie extra wide one.
I now note in (I think) Robinson's catalogue, that there is a Wintec Wide saddle, and it comes with three new gullets in purple, lilac and pink, and they are for horses largery than the extra wide white gullets. Uno problemo...
Does anyone know if or where you can get these beeeeeg gullets from by themselves, or are they only available with the saddle?? Another con. Don't adapt your existing saddle, buy another!
Any ideas please??

Hi
I heard that the resaon these are with that bigger saddles is because the standard saddles arent built to take the size of these gullets.
I cant remember where I heard this but I think it was at my local saddlers.
Nookster has a cob wide that has purple gullets.

Wintec cob is very different saddle from the standard wintec (the 500 and 2000). The 500 is a TB saddle - very cambred panels, curved tree (esp when fitted wider) and unbalanced when set at wider than a medium.
The cob saddle is much much better - the panels are flater both side to side and front to back, the balance of the saddle is better when fitted wide and there's four girth straps. Definintly not a con;) - the cob saddle is a nice saddle that would suit many more horses than the 500/2000
The cob gullets can fit into the standard saddle but it totally messes up the balance of the saddle and the tree becomes stupidly curved.
This is a standard wintec with a xx-wide gullet in it - and they do this

If you have a banana shaped backed horse with very sloped loins then you can usually get the gullets off ebay.

Hi Monty, I had reason to contact Wintec once, and I found them really helpful. Maybe you could ask them your questions.
Also there are often Wintec gullets for sale on Ebay;)

I currently have a wintec wide with the three pink gullets. They come with the saddle and I have never seen them for sale seperately.
I find it quite tricky to change these gullets but have heard that you can use the white gullet from the wintec 500 and put it in the wintec wide. Not an easy job I imagine.
I am currently using the middle of the three pink ones and have found that even with weight gain or lose, I only need stay within the range of the gullets that came with it.
Hope that makes some sort of sense.

Gets easier with practise;)
The wintec cob can actually take a wide (red) and white ( x-wide) gullet. In fact, the tree's a good shape when set at the narrower gullets as it's flat. When you put in the widest gullets the tree starts to curve more.

The wintec wide is a different overall shape from the standard wintecs. I doubt there are many horses that the panel shape would be right for in the standard wintecs (apart from maybe the isabell werth, that does seem better suited to flatter backs) if the horse was wide enough to need one of the stupidly wide purple gullets.

Gullets that come with the wintec wide (purlple etc) can't / well shouldn't be used in other wintecs, designed to go with the wintec wide.
As pink says the wintec wide saddle can take a red and white gullet.
I did have a spare wintect wide and gullets but sold yesterday i'm afraid

No the gullets are not available seperately. It was a pain in the backside if we couldn't find a set and had to post someone's order, as I don't recall them ever agreeing to send us a spare!
Again they shouldn't be used with a standard wintec.

Thanks for all that. Guess it makes sense re shape of saddle vs the gullet. Sorry about my reservations re Wintec. I have a Wintec Dressage 2000, and adore it. It has been molly coddled to death. NO-ONE touches my Wintec, let alone lies it in the worng position, or God forbid :eek:throws it! And yes, I did carch some wally who was about to....and that's not our NR Wally btw.
But when it was less that 12 months old, one of the girth straps came away whilst I was riding, ok so I still had another strap, so no harm came to me, but when my saddler examined it, that was coming away too. I contacted Wintec via e-mail, and they were very defensive about it. In fact their attitude annoyed me so much that I got in touch with Trading Standards. They contacted Wintec......and I had a really snotty e-mail from them, so you'll excuse me for not feeling too charitable tomwards them!!!!!
However, thank you. I think you've answered my question anyhow.
