i rode my moms western trail horse today. other than that her old owner rode her english i have no idea what all her training has been in. i know she did race (STB). anyway today it was so hot but i had such a graving to ride!
my horse has been lame so i got on ms.western horse and and tried to do some bending at the walk. just doing walk exersizes. well she was soooo good! than i wanted to see how much i could get so i used a lot of my leg and that horse was doing the cuttest little side step! i did it both ways cut across the diagnol. i don't know what i was doing, but i think she knew what she was doing.

i think it would be fun to play around with her a little bit more, i don't have a lot of time because i have my horse and pony to ride so i wouldn't be able to ride her much. but i think it would be fun to get someone up and ride her (a dressage person) to see what she knows? because i have never had a dressage lesson i just kinda played around with her but the way she was moving just astonished me and my mom.

was she just doing what she thought i was asking or do you think maybe she had some training in dressage? is it worth it really to pay someone to come up and see what she knows? i don't know if i should, but i think it would be fun!

.. if you knew she had been trained before or not ?

If she has been trained, then you have the choice what to do next - stay as you are or use it.

if she has not been trained, maybe its just a natural talent - but the choice is still the same !

if you are interested in exploring it, why not have a lesson on her. And it does not really matter if its english or western,as both have lateral work - just different names and different outline.

or maybe she's had training in reining...which is like dressage for western riders.

Lots of western horses do half pass and leg yield and that sort of thing, i think it might surprise a lot of people because you don't really think of western horses as needing to be trained that stuff. But it makes sense, a horse that can menuver easily is a whole lot mire useful at herding cattle than one that just goes in circles all day.
