Im looking to show my filly in hand next year but have only ever showjumped an whp. Showing is not normally my thing but she has fantastic paces and is really well bred! Dam ISH sire SF (Cor de le bryer, Landgraff). think i would do hunter yongstock and sport horse classes.

So basicly what do i need to wear?
Does she need a bridle or can i just do it in a rope halter?

I keep looking to see what people wear but everyone is different!

Hi There! I'm in the same postion as you. (Filly to show next summer)

After asking lots of people I'm going to wear: Navy Beagler/Hat, Shirt, Tie, Cream Trousers, Blue Tweed Jacket and suitable running boots!

She wil either be in a filly slip or an in-hand bridle.

Think for Sports Horse grading you have to dress all in white??!!!

Mehitabel has a great site for all this stuff. Basically you still turn out to type dress-wise.

Sorry forgot show cane and gloves!

Thats love joy thats really helpful. I dont have a beagler. Is that an esential or can i just wear a velvet show hat with flesh straps?

for hunters she needs a bridle - rope halter is for native ponies only. most hunter yearlings will be bitted, but if you can control her without, then you can have the bit in for show only and have the lead attached to the noseband of the bridle. velvet hat with straps is fine, and probably preferable for a big girl on her first outings in case of some airs above the ground!
yep - sports horse gradings you normallyt dress in white, but for show classes that are not gradings, hunter turnout will be fine.

sports horse classes are becoming more commonly done on a triangle, so make sure you practice both types of show. my site is linked in my profile if youwant some more in depth reading about it.

velvet hat will do nicely too. If you look up Methibel's profile on here there should be a link to her showing website which is very helpful:)

Thaks for the advice. I had better start getting her used to a bit then. She is really good to handle at home but i think at a show is going to be a different matter lol. I think i would rather wear a hat as she is a big girl lol.

Thanks

very sensible! the first party atmosphere is a lot to cope with and remeber manners for the best behaved baby, so better safe than sorry.

Hi,
We take our new ponies to small shows and just walk around with them
to show them all the new things without the pressure of going into the ring.
Also you can take your time loading and unloading(:))
on show days you can tell the ones that don't ;)

OOOo, I am really hoping to show Logan next year too, he's a purebred ID so will take him to yearling ID classes where there are any and hunter classes if there are no specific RID classes. I have ordered a medium brown bridle that is in quite a warm hue that I think will go a treat with his dark chestnut coat. I was planning on wearing beige judhpurs, brown jacket, cream shirt and a brown leather aussie hat does this sound ok? I wanted something to show up the hue of his coat as it is lovely.
I intend to show him bitted using a snaffle or rubber bit, even though he is a lovely calm sort he is a very strong chunky horse so would feel more comfortable with the control of a bit .

Any thoughts on the above or general pointers gratefully received.

if you've got some cream/beige/light trousers instead of the jods, that would look better - but jods are fine if you've not got any.
