ideas please!

had the dentist out yesterday who suggested that due to ponio's odd mouth (small and very fleshy - its really ewwwwwww to be fair to him), to put him into a more gentle bit as long as he stops

At that point daughter's RI steps onto yard - good timing! She fell about laughing when asked if he stopped easily and said, its more a going problem we have, no issues with stopping (our boy is so laid back - nothing phases him either - he is just soooooooooo good but not exactly forward going :p)

She said try a happy mouth and had to dash off and I won't see her till after Christmas now

The dentist said go rubber and straight, the more gentle the better

He really is a good ponio and has no problems with stopping so I'd like to go down to a very gentle mild bit

what would you suggest?

I am going to the tack shop tomorrow - its a HUGE one - enormous, so they stock just about everything you could ever dream of so guess who always comes out having spent a fortune

I'd rather go in say what I want and walk out so I don't bash the credit card AGAIN - or they'll be a divorce in the Snowy household

He's in a thickish snaffle at the moment - with dressage rings as he has such a ickle head

if hes got a small fleshy mouth one of the most important things will be to get a bit that is thin to give him as much room as possible.

alot of straight bar rubber snaffles are quite thick, happy mouths are quite thin so possibly a french link with lozenge or similar.

my horse has small head and fleshy mouth and i use a neue shule baucher snaffle with the roller in the middle. it has a slight curve to the mouth piece which appears to help her and hangs slightly more off the tounge reducing the pressure on it (hers is rather large)

good luck, happy hunting - ive found bits are a minefield, took me ages to get the right one - he will let you know when you have found it!

How about going bitless?.. I have no idea in this area so can't advise on it but just a thought!

I recommend Myler - specially designed for fussy/particular mouth shapes, to name but one of the benefits!
Bitless is also an ideal option.

:-D

Another vote for Mylers, maybe the comfort snaffle with a low port. They are expensive but lots of places do them on trial so you can at least give it a thorough try before you buy. I've used the Myler Bit Bank in the past & been very pleased with the advice & service.

As already said, perhaps something thinner would give more room for the tongue in a fleshy mouth, and perhaps a mullen mouth might suit. Myler and Neue Schule both give very good advice I think if you contact them.

thanks for that - don't care bout the cost if it makes Mr fleshy mouth comfy. I'd rather eat economy beans on economy bread for a month rather than scrimp on something that will improve his comfort - the joys of pony ownership eh!

bitless isn't an option as she does a lot of pony club and riding club and they don't allow bitless
