My horse will be 2 in May and I would like to try some in-hand showing classes with him, however never having done any showing before I don't know what we should be aiming for. (he is to make about 16.2hh)

that is one really really nice horse......hes gonna be one big stunner:eek: his backside is awesum and his legs, he looks to have alot of bone and a lovely sloping shoulder....
did you breed him??? what is he??
if you do local shows there are classes for the best yearling 2 and 3 year old.... im not sure about the bigger shows but i know there are hunter classes for youngsters in hand... maybe he could do them looking at his type.
hes gonna be lovely when hes older though.....im well jealous :)

Thank you for your lovely comments I love him to bits he is such a kind sweet natured boy :)
I didn't breed him I saw him advertised in a magazine 6 months ago and I just had to have him! His breeding is 1/2 Thoroughbred 1/4 Hackney 1/4 Irish Draught by a stallion called Resident Gypsy.
I think I try some fun 2 year old classes with him, he'll make a middleweight so perhaps I'll try hunter youngstock as well :)

Def the hunter youngstock classes also a good one for him is potential sport horse andnovice horse and there are the best turned out, best condition, junior?/senior? handler handsomest gelding but dont do too many classes with him at one time and practice having him stand up properly and do his little inhand show...if he has a good trot run like stink to show it off but make sure you can pull him up.I do a lot of in hand so if you want any tips......!:D

Oooo yes if you have any tips for us we'd love to hear them!
He has a nice action in the field, whether I can get the same from him leading........better get me running shoes on! I only want to do a few shows, nothing too serious.
I met his dad when I bought him, a really lovely horse (course my boy is better :D) but I think Jasper was probably over looked by many as he doesn't have his sires same striking markings.

Youngstock and hunter classes (plus any extras like novelty classes) are ones to look out for.
In hunter classes you don't need to run as fast as with some breeds (like welsh cobs). I notice that your boy is 1/4 hackney - does he have lots of knee action? Knee action (stepping high with the knee) is undesirable in a hunter, and going fast can accentuate it, so as long as you're going fast enough to show a forward trot, you don't need to be flat out (and with one as big as your you'd need to be an athlete to keep up!!)

I can't say he has much knee action definitely nowhere near Hackney standard. When you can see it though its mainly in a slow trot :)
