I went on my frist drag hunt today(and thoroughly enjoyed it!).

However, i'm just wondering what is the best care for your horse after, as it is obviously quite strenuous for them.

I washed mine down with warm water, made sure there was nothing in his hooves and no cuts anywhere, then walked him with a sweat rug on until he dried, and left him rugged up and nice and warm. I am a worrier though and am worried about his little legs! Should i be bandaging them, or putting anything on them overnight? Or does that only apply after going cross country on harder ground where there is more impact on their legs?

thanks,

Kate

I too went hunting for the first time today, isnt it fun !!!!

All i did with my mare, was hose her legs down, gave her a wash, check for cuts etc and left her in her stable with a nice thick clean bed, lots of hay and plenty of rugs on.
Tomorrow if she isnt puffy we are going to take them for a little plod around the block just to loosen them off a bit then will turn them out as usual as long as they are not showing any signs of discomfort.
Hope that helps

If your horse has been conditioned to the work, there shouldn't be much beyond cooling down, grooming, feeding and general snugglies...
I'm ASSUMING your horse is used to that much running?
