Hi I am new to this forum.
I hope someone out there can help me, I am looking to buy a lusitano weanling in 2008 from the UK, does anyone know of any reputable breeders?
If i cannot find one here i would buy from Portugal, but have no experience of buying abroad or importing.............. can anyone help me please?

Thanks

Speak to Heather Moffett, Where are you in the UK?

Theres was/is a breeder in South Wales, although I've no idea if they are breeding good stock.

Is there no UK breed society?

Definitely speak to Heather as she'll know who you can go to :) If you would be happy to buy from Portugual 'Chapsi' on this forum sells some lovely Lusos :D

Second Chapsi! She has sold some exceptional youngstock to both the UK and to Norway. OlavS on here can recommend as he came over with his friend Pelle and bought three baby Lusos - they are thrilled with them.

Pen Llyn Lusitanos are also very good.

Heather (Moffett) will probably recommend Maria aka Chapsi as a good, reputable source for Luso buying.

Also if you buy from Chapsi you get to go to Portugal, Easyjet and BMIbaby both do flights to Lisbon.

I have just got back from Portugal, having my lesson with a top trainer and given my time again I would ditch my Spanish and have a Luso any day!

Thanks for the messages,
I am in the Gloucestershire area. I have just had a look at Chapsi's website, they are stunning looking horses! I will give them a call in the new year. If anyone does hear of any here in the UK, please let me know.

There are relatively few PSL here in the UK compared to PRE, so not that many breeders to chose from. Is there any particualr reason you want a weanling? Maria/Chapsi often has yearlings up to three year olds for sale for a similar price, plus you get to ride them earlier too.

I know that Zeus the three year old on her site is a cracker because I have my eye on him too. She also has my dream horse for sale, a dun Veiga bred stallion, I met him and loved him and we clicked beautifully, just need a lottery win!

That is a serious dream horse the Veiga bred one, I would love something like that one day. I wanted a weanling as I want to start the horse myself. I have bought quite a few previously and have found so many people have different ways of training etc.... I would be happy with anything really under the age of 18months. I have also got a fantastic irish tb at the moment, so he will be at easying down age when the baby is ready to back.
Talk about lottery wins, I am still convinced that I will win one day, but I must remember to buy the dam ticket (might help!! Lol)

In that case Maria has access to a couple of good studs breeding nice useful stock with good temperaments, so finding you a Luso baby should be no problem. The stud where Zeus is bred leave all their youngstock out in a free living herd until 3, and they all seem very sane, kind, unflappable types. Good Luck with finding your Luso, they are a fantastic breed, I MUCH prefer them to my Spanish now!
