heya,
im just in the process of having a filly imported to UK from US.
her dam is piebald (shes samber's daughter) and her sire is a black full freisian (Bente D)
i was wondering what the chances of her having a coloured foal are? she is bay (i think) but may be black under her baby coat.
this is the link to her advert:

any help gratefull..... and of course any comments on her.
thanks

Looks a nice filly but may I ask why you are bothering to import her as you could purchase a similar filly in Europe for a similar price without the additional £4,000 shipping.
As it doesn't look like she has inherited tobiano from her dam she won't be any more likely to produce a coloured than a mare with no colours behind her.
What registry would accept her in the UK?

She looks the same sort of choclatey bay that one of our TB x Friesian babies is, I think it's called seal bay??! Have a look at the sold horses page on my website below her name is Arwen, sorry I havn't any decent pics of her will take some in summer when she is 2yrs old and is not as gawky as she was as a yearling!!
If you were looking at buying a friesian x coloured horse that is really worth bringing all the way from the US then check out Nico Pinto's offspring, he's a bit long in the back for my taste but some of his offspring are gorgeous and well worth the investment of £4000 shipping!- and as Nico is coloured (Samber lines I think cross friesian) you would be far more likely to get coloured sproglets out of one of his coloured babies!:D

She will not throw coloured foals unless put to a coloured stallion. She's lovely but I too am a little confused as to why you would import her all the way from America - or did you just fall in love?!!! :)

hi guys, i am importing her, because you cannot get that standard of horse, let along a freisian x WB in europe! i have been looking for years, and have had a quote that is around a third of what you are sayin (£4000). im not too worried about getting a coloured, because i am am funny with coloureds, they must be perfectly marked. i was just wondering lol. thanks to whoever said about *nico stallion. his foals are definatly too long in the back for what i want, and they are most of the time (not all) a little too chunky for PSG. thanks again everyone.

also, someone asked about registeries. shes registered with:
Friesian Sporthorse Registry,
Friesian Bloodhorse Registry,
American Warmblood Society,
American Warmblood registry
and she will be 100 day perofrmance tested with the Hannoverian society for registry, along with international friesian show horse association.

Are you saying you have had a quote for less than a couple of grand for transport? If so can you let me have the details? I'm not trying to be smart at all I am seriously interested (PM if you prefer) The cheapest I've managed to find for quarantine and flights seems to work out at around the 3K and I am intending importing in the spring. Thanks!

:D
Where do you think her parents are from?
IME with American breeders their stock isn't necessarily higher quality but they attach a lot more hype & awards appear to be much easier to collect in some states.
How far have you looked? With a £5.000 - £6,000 budget for a filly foal you should have lots of choice in Europe and you can actually meet the foal & it's parents.
Don't you like any of the Samber sons that are standing? Plain fillies by the coloured studs are rarely retained IME so quality ones are often for sale although you are a bit late for 2007 foals.

yes jet that is correct, pm me if you want any details. not goin to say anything on forum. lol.
and sugar, her dad is american bred and mum is a german import. fair enough with that budget i could get something from europe but i dont have that budget )look at her advert and you will see the price of her. i have just come back from usa, i went to meet her, mum and **. and the return flighht was only £300, which is fairly reasonable and i had planned to have to travel for my right horse. i do like samber sons but dont want to breed my own (to much risk). she is not by a coloured stud, mum is coloured. what do you mean by IME?

I am assuming PSG is Prix St Goerge:o! friesians are chunky and compete at that level with no problem, also you do realise she is going to be a pretty chunky girl anyway - all friesian crosses are, our friesian x TB's start out refined but end up as nicely chunky sorts!!:D

yes it is blackhorses. i know they do, but as her mum is jumping lines, that does not restrict my discipline. i know she will end up chunky but she will not be quite as chunky. i prefer them to be a little chunky as i currently have part bred cleveland bays. and love them. i have has a look at your website, and really like samson, but do not want a TB x. lol.

Same chance as any solid mare; 50% chance of coloured if put to heterozygous coloured (stallion with one copy of tobiano) and guaranteed colour if stallion is homozygous (has two copies). :)

$5000 is about £2,500 + shipping (& I know a lot of people who have brought in paints & quarter horses so you'll be looking at at least £3.000 & more likely £4,000, not just shipping but vets fees etc as well.) = £5, 000 - £6,000 as a budget.
It's a bit like looking at stud fees e.g. Demonstrator at £800. Then add in the vets, AI etc and £2,000 is more realistic.
If you have found cheap shippers do tell, I've found the racehorse transporters work out cheapest if you can time a trip with bloodstock sales.

i have found cheap shippers. they are in texas, and it would work out at £1500 to get the horse to scotland or luxembourg (also helps that the dollar is crappy atm)

No idea about breeding her, but i almost imported a horse from Canada and the shipping was £1750 to my door :) That was for a weanling, they put them in "crate" with four others (partitioned obviously) so it makes it cheaper. Its a lot more expensive for an older horse.
Personally, i would want a top quality, graded foal if i was importing it, but thats just me :)

I am with Jessica on this one, if I were importing it would have to be something really fancy especially if I was aiming at Prix St George level, and with your budget of £4000+ you could get a really top notch youngster in the UK or europe and not have to waste so much on transport!! Mind you £1500 is not bad at all - do they look after the horse well though and how do they keep the horse while they are shipping it to Texas? - that's what always worries me when importing from anywhere - I am a worrier though!
Crossing a friesian with a warmblood is going to get a heavy hunter type which is quite nice, do you know much about the dam?
The friesian cross any of the lighter breeds do seem to inherit the warmblood action - which is where I guess it came from! As the warmbloods already have friesian or draught breeds in them we chose to cross with the lighter TB's as you get something more towards the modern warmblood with a bit more bone, which we have found is what people want for dressage and eventing, our TB crosses have gone on to do both, they can certainly jump, and having a horse with such an engine and the friesian drive for food is always interesting - 5 bar gates from a stand still to get at the sheeps food - no problem:rolleyes:!!! So do be aware they are good jumpers!!!!:p
We kept back a "friesian warmblood"(TB x Wessel) colt, Pheonix, as a stallion prospect, who's very much like the filly you are looking at only going to be taller around 16.3Hh, with a slightly shorter face, he is to die for his conformation is perfect - nice and short backed, and he's soooo sweet natured can't wait to see how he turns out, he's looking gorgeous at the mo, despite doing a very good woolly rhino impression!!!:p
We're keeping our fingers crossed she throws a Pheonix clone this year - all her sproglets are the same just various shades of bay, so fingers crossed! We got a filly out of her 2007 which was just like her big brothers and a really nice bright bay, we hope she will go on to do dressage!!
There are quality horses in the UK, we have a couple of warmblood mares booked in to meet Wessel next year, as the owners wanted big chunky hunter/dressage types so people do do the cross, I have seen the odd one in H&H too, so don't totally write off british breeders when looking for a horse!!!!
But do keep us posted as to how she turns out, I love any friesian x, I know it is forbidden to cross the friesians - the FPS are waaay to uptight about it, but I don't care!!!!!:p
