Hey,
Ive also had to take time out for medical reasons, surgery etc.
You need to be honest with them, for your own safety, more than anything. Dont be embarassed, why should you be? If you tell them now, then you won't get any awkward situations later on. If you've lost abit of confidence you need to tell them this too, they will understand if its worth going there to ride! If they dont understand, then find another school who does. They wont think you are a freak either, if people are worth knowing, then they should understand. I wouldnt waste time worrying about it, when you could be having a great time getting back into riding.
But yeah, honesty is the best policy, just explain your situation, whats gone on etc, that youve lost some confidence etc. Hopefully they will help you find a suitable horse to help you back into riding. And if you dont feel comfortable at that particular stables, dont be disheartened, find another school which suits Your needs.
Best of luck
