hi, i am new here and have a question.
i have been riding for a while now and love it. i will be doing shows soon but only in hand shows with my shetland Timmy, i just dont know what side you should lead from, the left or the right. i know that you have to be on the out side of the arena so that the judge can see your pony and not you. but i'm just not sure what side to lead from.
if any of you could tell me please i would be grateful ! ! !
thanks
Jay

in normal circumstances , you always lead from the left.

if you want to know why we do everything on the left, PM me, im just in a hurry!!

but like, at our barn, all the horses are trained to lead from both sides, because the leader in therapeutic classes, is always on the inside, so they have more control, and so that they can communicate with the instuctor.

its very helpfukll knowing how to lead form btoh sides, incase of emergencies.

Practice from both sides....then on the day just don't go into the ring first, let someone else pick which rein they go round on, then follow!

If you are leading on the road get between the pony and the traffic, then if the horse shies he will jump away from you not over you, this is, in my view the only real reason to lead from one or another side, in every day messing about it really doesn't matter.
