If being realistic, you wont get much change from that, if at all. There are people who can keep a horse on £200-250 a month, BUT what happens if something goes wrong, horses can rip rugs thats another £100 gone, extra costs like vets bills if your not properly insured, costs of transport if competing, costs of lessons, if you need new clothing, costs associated with competing etc. You will always need to set aside money, just incase.

Plenty of people budget for around £400 a month, but depends really on where you keep the horse and stuff.

Is that £550 purely on a horse or do you have anything extra to come from that? Like bills, a car etc. (sorry not sure of your living situation) If its just on a horse, hten it is fine.
It does depend on DIY or full livery, or what kind of horse you get, but as long as you plan for that then youl be fine. There will always be the potential for vets fees though.

It costs me around £360 on full livery but that doesnt include vets bills and other expenses such as Rugs, Competitions fees, Boots etc.

On the horse side of things, I only speak from my one and only X-Country experience on the yard XC course, but have seen Tyler who is a ID nad a few other horses with ID in their breeding do rather well at XC.

Although I am sure there is a horse breed that is more aimed at XC (or am I showing my lack of knowledge here :p)
