my friend just told me she has found out her horse actually has a broken cheek bone:confused:and has had since she was about 4 but never noticed.
would this cause her hrose pain, as she has been 'difficult' over the years, i have always wondered about a relation to pain.
thank you:)

I once went to look at a (very expensive ) dressage horse who had an obviously old fracture of the cheek bone and was nutter. A bit like chicken and egg did it get the fracture as it was loopy or did the fracture cause the loopiness.
On the other hand I was given a lovely ex eventing mare who had recovered from a broken wither bone after a years rest who is a total saint but very hard to keep muscle on.
I don't think old fractures neccessarily give pain but may indicate other issues.

I guess it might cause pain if the fracture was displaced and impinged on a nerve! A vet and/or an equine dentist might be able to answer the question based on the x-rays. How did she discovered that there was a fracture?
