What's lateral flexion

Can anyone tell me what lateral flexion means please? Need to know for college, but cant find anything to explain the term in any books i have so if anyone can help i would be very grateful :D

Lateral flexion is each side of the horse's neck being stretched and softened and supple.. where lontitudinal flexion is the top of the poll.
