Hello all,

My horse has what I can only assume is rug rub on one of his shoulders where the rug clearly has been rubbing at his coat. It's all very short hairs in a big patch.

Is there anything I can put on the area to prevent rubbing like vaseline petroleum jelly or something?

Thanks!

How about something like these (http://sports.search.ebay.co.uk/vest_Horse-Wear-Equipment_W0QQcatrefZC6QQcoactionZcompareQQcoentrypageZsearchQQcopagenumZ1QQdfspZ1QQfgtpZQQfposZPO12 Q204JUQQfromZR2QQfsooZ1QQfsopZ1QQftrtZ1QQftrvZ1QQga10244Z10425QQlopgZQQsabfmtsZ1QQsacatZ16235QQsadis Z200QQsaprchiZQQsaprcloZQQsargnZQ2d1QQsaslcZ3QQsbrftogZ1QQsofocusZbs):

That's assuming that the rug is actually a good fit.

it might be worth buying a horse vest - anything else will smear on the lining and will be hard to get off. the vest worked well on my horse :)

Hmm actually that is not a bad idea!
The rugs are a good fit I am just assuming he must move around alot.
Also the yard do them tight sometimes depending on who is on so I might tell them to loosen them.

Yeah I'm thinking that may be best!
Do you think it hurts him and it needs anything on then or just get a vest and leave it as it is?

Thanks!

Well if it isn't tight and pulling across the shoulders or it isn't too long and pulling the rug backwards and is just a friction thing then I would go with the vest :)

We got a vest, and 3 weeks later he's got hairy shoulders again :o Our RI said in the 'old days' they used to sew silk material to line the inside on the rugs.

We have the roma/weatherbeeta rub bib and it works a treat. Only need it on one of his rugs - its a good fit, but I think its the style that makes it rub on the shoulders. Its a fairly old rug and so hasn't got such great designed should darts as the new ones

Bossy's Bibs are the answer. They are brilliant and put an end to rug rubs. :)
