My YO is thinking of changing from Bedmax to Cuchionbed.

What are your experiences with it?

Thanks

My RS use it - I find it it's easy to muck out with, the bales are pretty light and easy to carry in a wheelbarrow and the clean stuff falls back through the fork easily. I personally don't like the way it looks, but that's just a personal opinion :p

No experience of mucking it out myself, but I'm sure that is what they use at my RS (40+ horses). My YO (who is lovely I might add) is quite tight - so can only imagine it is economical otherwise he wouldn't use it

Will enquire when I'm next up about what it is like to muck out - none of them have rubber mats.

if it is that woodchippy stuff then its quite good - not very absorbent but J lay down on it so must have been fairly comfy (on top of rubber matting). was quite heavy when wet i thought though. only used it for a couple of nights before putting those lovely eucalyptus shavings on the top. yum!

What is it about these eucalyptus shavings? My RI uses them, & was telling me about them today. Where do you get them from & how much are they. I like to keep YO on his toes!!!

we can't afford them now there's 3 of us and we're back on a yard with no matting and free straw :o

but they are absolutely gorgeous - around £5.50 a bale. i got mine from Springhill farm but i think sandyacres might do them too. honestly they're just scrummy and have no dust whatsoever.

I've used CushionBed for about 2 years and wouldn't change, though partly because I get it from someone who buys it in bulk and therefore I get it at £3.50 a bale.

I use it with rubber mats, lay some at the back of his stable where he pees. I pick off the droppings from the top on a daily basis - then weekly take out any wet patches and add another bale on top. As long as you are tempted not to disturb it too much then it stays pretty firm - and my boy rolls on it every night he's bought in.
