after reading through Something SERIOUS to bear in mind (http://www.newrider.com/forum/showthread.php?t=131849) i have realised (well i did know a fair bit before) how open this forum actually is especially the meetups area in the forum. It is great to be able to organise to meet up with people on the forum but who else is looking in? there are some areas where there are very few people so they could pm each other (if they know they are in the same area) and arrange a meet up that way but it then excludes people you simply don't know are just down the road... BUT, posting on a live forum could lead to people turning up that aren't there to be about the horses (maybe i'm paranoid :o) so is there anyway to make that section of the forum more secure eg you have to be logged in to view or you have to re sign in to view or you have to have been a member for x amount of days and have y amount of posts to verify you are who you say you are - its not completely secure but surely would help

I think it would be a very good idea if its possible. Would never want the meetups to stop but surely it would be better if there is a way of keeping lurkers out.

Really good idea to have the thread viewable by members only and members of some length of time/posts etc.

Not a bad idea if the Meet Ups sub-forum could be members only...

anyone can sign up as a member and lurk though :o

maybe have the meetups stuff for 18+ people only?

mind you, there would be quite a few people at a meet-up i suppose so those should be reasonably safe

the problem is you can lie about your age so the 18+ i can't see how its viable :(

you would hope there would be a lot of people at the meet up but what if people pull out last minute? there only has to be one weirdo and it may not be the meet up thats the problem but the fact that you are stating online, the area you are in which makes you more traceable. you could become a member on here to lurk hence why i suggest the length of time and number of post thing but i'm sure just having to log in would help

arranging by PM sounds like a good idea. or memebers with a certain amount of posts to ensure that they aren't people that sign in just to view profiles etc

i think this sounds like a very good idea, as other people have mentioned anyone can sign up and make their age up! scary!
