jumping consists of five elements.
approach- have a nice, steady, forward gait. Look straight ahead at a point beyond the jump.
takeoff- be prepared, and count the strides. Go three, two one, and on one, you should be taking off over the jump. Lean forward slightly into your jump position. Look straight ahead, no looking down!
suspension- your hands should be forward on the horses neck in a crest release, or another release of some sort. Keep as still as possible, and don't look down!
landing- sit back down in the saddle lightly, keep your eyes up, no looking down.
recovery- canter/trot away from the jump.

Good for you Sarah! It's wonderful isn't it? Heels down, eyes up, and have fun! Oh, and let the horse do his job. I have a terrible habit of pick, pick, picking at the horse on the approach.

look where you are going...if you look at the dirt that is most likley where you will end up!

heels down, if your heels come up and your legs fly back you will probably loose balance on the landing, so keep those babyes down

don't start to lean foward and get ahead, sit up and wait with your upper body, count down three two one jump than 'spring' ino your jumping position. if you start to get ahead and lean foward your horse may take advantage of you and run out or refuse, he if refuses and you are ahead you could come off over his head. grab some mane at first if you have to you dont want to be hangin on the horses mouth over the jump :)
