it really doesn't matter i am 5'4 i think around there, my mom says 5'6 but anyway... i ride from 9hh (lol my feet were a foot off the ground! he was such a fun pony to ride though) to 18hh.
its really what you feel comfy on.

Size is not the issue, your weight, experience, that of the horse's all play a part.
In theory if you are a lightweight you'd be fine on a Shetland!!
Ride what you can handle, what you feel happy on and in control of.
I'm 5 feet 8 and have a 13hh horse.

I agree with Wally.
you could easily overhorse yourself on one 14hh and then on another be fine.
i'm 5ft 2" an currently have a 13.3hh cobby gelding. he suits me well and we work together as a team, but last summer I was put on a 13.1hh little welsh. i was too big for her and i am a very well built person but trying to get her to stop was murder, but yet a person used to fast horses rode her really well and had no problems.
so that sorta shows that you could ride a 16hh and not be overhorsed, but it could be a different matter on a smaller pony.

I'm 5 ft tall and Princess is 15.1 hh. When I got her though I was only about 4'11". You would probably be most comfortable on 15.1-16 hh. At least I am and I'm about your height.

I am 5 foot and ride a 14.3hh mare and we look just right together.
I think there is nothing worse than seeing a little kid on a huge horse because you can't correctly use your legs, same goes for a big kid on a tiny little pony.

Like many have said, your height and the horses height isn't the biggest factor in fitting a horse and rider to each other, it also depends on weight, ability and how long your legs are (you may be short, but have long legs...if that makes sense) I myself ride a 15.0Hh Arabian mare, but could easily ride the 14.2Hh gray arabian mare at the barn I ride at, and I'm 5'5 and medium weight (about 130lbs), so truly you should look around and try ever size of horse you can before making up your mind that you need a big or small horse because of your height :)
Shady_Indigo I agree with your opinion on seeing a small child or small adult on a giant horse, it just doesn't look right...and you can't use your legs correctly :P

I am about 5 ft and my pony is 14.1hh. I had a 15.2hh and I had overhorsed myself on him, as he was very strong, and I am much more suited to ponies. However, I did have a 14.2hh mare who I was overhorsed on too, I think some of the hack riders would have trouble on her!! Dont forget, the smaller the horse, usually the quicker moving & quicker thinking they are! (Thats why you've just gotta luv em ;) )

What size of horse should I be looking at if I am 6'2" and 14.5 stone (roughly 95kg)?

i agree on all that has been said you will soon find a size that you feel confident/comfortable with
but i think anything above the 16hh may be a bit too big on the basis of mounting/dismounting where there isnt always a mouting block to aid you.

I am 5'6 and of medium build ans weight, I have a 16hh throughbred and we look fine together. My old pony was 14hh cobby type and I rode him ok, although I couldn't stop him. I also ride my moms 15.1hh welsh D, I ride him ok because I was used to my old pony, but my mom finds him strong. It's all about how you feel and if you and your horse work well together.

It all depends on what sort of riding you want to do!
In the dresage ring thet'd all die laughing if you tried to compete on a 14hh horse.
However if you wanted to compete at Icelandic Oval track competition there are no shortage of 6 footers on 13.2hh horses.
My Dad is 6 feet 4 inches and about 20 stone. He used to ride my Haflionger of about 13.2hh....or should I say he was taken for a ride by my Haflinger!
If you want to join in with the ordinary horse world in GB anything over about 16.2hh should suit you, smaller if the horse is wide!

well, I'm about 5'2"-5'4" and the school horses I usually ride nowadays are anywhere from 14.3-16 hh. I usually ride a 15.3 hh horse though. It really doesn't depend on size, just that you can handle your horse and you can work with it well.

Yr height should not be a problem, im 6'3" and ride between 16.2 & 18hh, but a lot of schools seem to have a weight limit though, some 13st where I ride is 14st.
I had a 15.2hh welsh cob when riding in wales, carrying my weight was no problem, just that my feet were close to the ground.

The problem with competing at dressage with an Icelandic is the judges simply would not know how to judge an Icelandic's gaits or his way of going as it is very different from that of a ordinary gaited horse!
Even in trot the Icelandic moves in a very different way.
We compete agianst other Icelandics and do okay, there are test where you have to show all the gaits and test where you choose either trot or tolt, but you cannot show both once you have opted for one!
