When wrapping for a leg injury, (lame and non-lame) would you wrap one leg or the set and why? Are there any benefits to one or both (or all)?

Just curious, seems to be a subject nobody here agrees on.

Thanks ahead of time for your input. :)

i always bandage both to keep them "balanced". if its a front leg, i'll wrap both fronts, hind and i wrap both hinds. i can't think of the benefits :o but just something i've always done.

I was taught to wrap both; because the horse will be putting more strain on the good leg, it too needs support.

No idea how true or scientific that is.

I understood to wrap both.

However, when B was treated for a cellulitis on one of her hinds, vet applied a pressure bandage to one leg only, and said she didn't need one on the other to balance her.

Both as it evens the pressure in both legs,

Another thought;

You say it evens the pressure in both legs, but when a leg goes bad, it seems to be the diagonal leg that takes the brunt of it. eg, say rear right goes bad, over time horse will show lameness on front left as well from uneven weight distribution, not rear left, regardless of wrapping.

So would you then wrap the diagonal leg? (or do it as default if you knew this was going to happen?)

Just curiosity here, I've yet to have a bad leg injury (Knock on wood!)

I always thought it was interesting that people wrap pairs - especially hinds, when 60% of the weight is on the front, with closer to 90% when there is a severe hind injury. What I'd love to know is the why. And, in the case of a severe hind injury, would you would wrap all four to help?

interesting... my mare always has bandages on when in but it is true that more weight is on the fore legs.
