Sorry I dont know but I do think I have an idea.
Take some twines, (the more you use the thicker it will be) tie together at one end then you should either attached them to a hook, door knob or get someone to hold them.
Then twist them evenly until you get to the end, now fold the twisted twines in half, they will hopefully coil quite evenly or you should help them along. Once both ends are tied they should stay in place.
Then all you should need to do is attach a clip and hopefully that should work.

Are you sure its a good idea to make it out of binder twine? Binder Twine cuts your hands, it isn't very soft and I bettcha it would give you a nasty burn if the horse pulled fast!

the other way is to plait them. Start the same by knotting one end and putting over a conveniant hook. Then plait away.
In my youth I used to get fancy and do a plait with 4 strands ! But 3 is simpler :)
You can make a simple loop at one end before you start to plait - knot the ends. Then leave a space and knot again a little further down. You end up with a part that has strands rather than plait. Then you can just feed the loop through a ring, feed the plait through the loop - and the whole thing is now attached to the ring.
