Hi folks, has anybody got some kind of diagram of how to tie a quick release knot for tying up horses?
The knot i need, is the one that when you pull the loose end of the rope to release the horse, the whole rope drops away completely from the twine that it was attached to, thereby giving a quick release in emergency situations, rather than the knot where you have to dither about pulling the loose end through the twine (this is the knot ive been using for years:o).
I can see this being in the manual of horsemanship maybe??
Many thanks!! xx

Can't find a diagram anywhere - tried to draw one myself which didn't work, and I won't be able to explain it! Hopefully someone else will be able to help but I can say that you start the knot by putting a loop of the leadrope through the baler twine, rather than just one end of it... I think the rest is the same...

yeah, i'll describe it best I can and then whilst you are trying to understand my description ill search for a picture! :p
Well you start by doubling up the lead rope and threading the doubled leadrope through the baling twine.
Then take hold of half of the leadrope that leads to the end of the rope that isnt connected to the horse, cross it over the other half.
Double that half you have in your hand and thread it through the OTHER doubled loop which you had threaded through the baling twine and then pull upwards to tighten.
I think :D

grasp one lace in each hand...cross one over t'other.....then one under t'other....pull those laces tight now!!.....form a generous sized loop with left lace....wind t'other lace around that loop....forming a loop at the end...that you then thread through wound round bit...and pull each loop tight...bingo a secure pair of shoezys!!
No shoe laces for me either- just the pull on kind of footwear....WELLIES:D:p

Attach the clip to the head collar........form a loop in the rope about halfway between the ends..........pass the loop through the baler twine loop............twist the rope loop away from you a turn or two..........push the loose end of the rope through the rope loop..........pull it right through.......tighten by pulling from the side nearest the clip.......finish by putting the loose tail through the loop again (so that the horse, if it pulls the end, cannot release itself).
To release the horse, take the end back through the loop before pulling it firmly. The result will be as you described......the rope will fall from the twine and you will have horse in hand, rather than a rope through a tight baler twine tie.
It's the safest way to tie a horse as the only way the knot can be released is by a pull on the loose end. The horse can never release itself by pulling when tied, but in an emergency the horse can be quickly/easily/safely released. No broken fingers/headcollars, or ruined horses.
Hope this helps.
