Hi, just wondering if anybody has a copy of the Join-Up DVD/VHS that they would be willing to sell or loan to me? I'm attending a Kelly Marks Intelligent Horsemanship course this year and need to watch it before I go. I've tried ebay but they only seem to have new, not used copies, this is my last attempt to track down a second-hand copy before I fork out for a new one - or more likely it gets added to my birthday wishlist!! Thanks :)

Have you tried his book "From my hands to yours" ?
I've never had the DVD as I've picked up so much from just watching the demo's:)

Or you could try asking on the I.H.D.G of coarse:)

You don't necessarily need to have seen or own the video, I didn't before I went. So long as you've read up about it in FMHTY or Perfect Manners and perhaps seen Monty or Kelly do one or two at demos you'll be fine :)

Don't forget to practice your rope throwing and handling before you go as well, it will give you one less thing to have to concentrate on. Enjoy the week, it's a fantastic experience and over much too quickly :)

I did the course, and got the whole thing about practising rope throwing & handling.

Went on course, indeed didnt need any particular type of 'rope throwing', so I think its a bit of a red herring. A fancy rope throw won't make you a trained horse. You'd be better thinking about (and practising) how horses read body language & how the engineering of a saddle affects riding position. And should riders force body into positions which look good but which may be uncomfortable to sustain......Also think about loading - ways of doing it, reasons for using food, when, and when not, the availabilty of panels in practical terms, who it would affect training, should person walk in with horse or stay outside, etc.

And dont be afraid to ask questions.

I found most didnt ask much, but just went along with stuff. This I can understand if you're completely new to it and its all a bit overwhelming, but even still there was hardly a peep from anyone which was a bit strange.. not sure if people were overwhelmed or what...........anyway I did ask things to get some things clarified and I think do ask Qs, dont just sit there wondering whats going on and if something doesn't make sense talk about it till it does.

Have fun.

:) Hi, If you can get hold of his book "The Man Who Listens to Horses" it explains how to do Join-up in the back of it. Which I guess which would be the main reason for watching the dvd. They may have one in your local library.

I too am going on the IH course this year - in April - and I've been looking for the join up DVD. I'm loathe to buy it new!! Although I have read how to do it, been to a demo and watched join up on TV, I feel that there are a lot of subtleties in body language that you don't always pick up on. This is why I want the DVD - to watch several times (bit of a pedant sometimes, me ;))

Monty demonstrates join up, however, in the series on Horse and Country TV, so I'm waiting for that particular episode to come on so I can record it!

Thanks for all your advice, someone has very kindly offered me the video - I knew I could rely on you New Riders to help me out:D I have watched a Monty demo and Kelly Marks demo before but just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything, I'll also have a look at the books you suggested before I go. My rope throwing is going pretty well, I'm using a 20ft line is this long enough?? or is that why I'm finding it fairly easy!
Horselass, I'm going on the 28th of April will you be there the same time? good tip off about the Horse and Country programme I will keep my eyes peeled.

So long as you can throw the line, collect it, change direction, throw it a few times and then collect it up again fairly smoothly without falling over it you'll be fine. Kelly will tell you off if poor line handling interferes with your instruction ;):D
