Hi,

For the last two years, I have been looking for a cremello lusitano stallion to breed my mare to.
I can't find one!
There was the stallion 'Idolo' - he was unavailable last year, and I can get no response to my emails about this year - anyone know of any more?

He is supposed to be available to limited mares this year, but I have not heard anything either, and I like Idolo a lot. You could try phoning his owner.

AFAIK Idolo is the only cremello Luso in the UK and I don't think he has full papers and is technically a partbred (cruzado). He could be full PSL just that a parent was not registered fully...

The only other way is to ship your mare to Portugal but it would add another £2K to your breeding costs, plus stud fee plus keep.

Sophie Norman of Spanish Horse Quest imports semen from champagne and sooty bucksin PRE stallions if you are convinced you want a dilute Iberian.

Thanks for your reply.
I do like Idolo - I'll try to call his owner.
I certainly can't afford £2k to send her away!!!!

I may well try and contact Sophie - I love her site, but I imagine its going to be fairly costly. I am hoping, if done by AI, I can get her done for under £1000. (semen cost/AI costs incl scans etc.) But, for this to happen, she'd have to take first time (which I doubt will happen).

Have you contacted either:

or

http://www.lusobreedsociety.co.uk/newsite/

They should know.

Jane Nicholas who lives near Henley in 'Arden has a cremelo lusitano stallion called Tobacco. I don't know if he is graded yet, or if she would cover with him but I saw him as a 3yr old and he was very nice.

We were toying with the idea of putting our Chestnut Welshy to this but he's not Spanish (for a palomino foal)

Mareish,
My uncle bred that horse, although no longer owns him. I'm glad when people continue to use his Prefix, as he has spent so many years breeding Palominos/cremellos.
